This picture is so important to me. All I’ve wanted from this work is to be joined in it by students I’ve been blessed to teach.
And here we are. Outside. Doing work alongside MIT, various state leadership, and advocates from all over our region. This photo is in a commissioned report and is thusly “immortalized.” If I had a legacy to leave behind, it is encapsulated here ❤️

Hey friends! Another reminder that SCEA, in partnership with Bloomfield Public Library, Bloomfield Public Schools, and Swift Factory, is hosting a literacy advocacy event featuring social media influencer and advocate, Oliver James, who - in adulthood - is teaching himself how to read.
The foundation of an educated, democratic populace is literacy and we should do all we can to ensure that everyone in our communities has the chance to learn to read and grow to love the written word.

Hey folks! On February 20 (yes, yes next year 😂) I'll be hosting a webinar called "Student Loan Debt: Fact vs. Fiction". On this webinar, Ms. Satra Taylor (Director of Higher Education & Workforce Policy & Advocacy, Young Invincibles) will walk through how we have gotten to this point, the experiences of all borrowers while highlighting the specific challenges that Black borrowers face, and current repayment management options for all borrowers.
Of special note, we will also talk about student loan rehabilitation and repayment for incarcerated loved ones who may or may not be in default, as well as events happening now on behalf of this student population.
Satra's bio is below and more folks will be added to the lineup as the date approaches! Please use the QR Code to register or RSVP here: bit.ly/SLD_FactorFiction. A flyer Is forthcoming so consider this a "Save the Date"! Feel free to share widely!

We have had an amazing time over the past 7 days. A week ago, students Lu Mattei, Jr. and Abraham Santiago visited MIT in Cambridge, MA as appointees to the New England Commission on the Future of Higher Education in Prison. Obviously, they turned up and turned it out!
On Wednesday, October 19, students Norman Gaines and Abraham Santiago co-keynoted at a Business Luncheon hosted by our credential pathway partner, Southern New Hampshire University
Today, SCEA alum and Stamford entrepreneur and co-owner of Juice Kings Juice Bar, Renel Domond, keynoted a session at the Black New England Conference, hosted by the Black Heritage Trail and Southern New Hampshire University
