"This will give me endless possibilities."

Summer STEAM 2026 is on a roll at MakerspaceCT with the second 3D Printing week of the summer.

Students learn to prepare files, operate 3D printers, and understand basic material properties. They all get to create and take home printed objects and learn the fundamentals of additive manufacturing.

The youth participants explored their creativity and problem-solving skills, worked with industry-grade equipment and technology, and realized the endless possibilities 3D printing offers!

Thank you to Ojas, Jeremiah, Desiree, Dalton, and Jiya for sharing their experiences with 3D printing!

Summer STEAM 2026 is made possible by our funders, the Justice Education Center and Greater Hartford Gives.

Week three of Summer STEAM 2026 was Sumo Robotics!

Students design, build, and program autonomous sumo robots. They learn about motors, sensors, electronics, and design, and then test their bots in friendly yet competitive, hands-on matches.

The youth participants enjoy customizing their robots and really get into the competitive aspect of combat robotics. These foundational skills prepare them for careers in STEM!

We exclusively use kits from Palm Beach Bots for this program!

Thank you to Kendrick, Kailey, Myles, Victoria, Steven, Michael, and Ryan for sharing their experiences with Sumo Robot Building!

We are pleased to announce that Dr. David M. Kruger has joined the MakerspaceCT Board of Directors!

Dr. Kruger is a recently retired board-certified orthopedic surgeon with decades of experience in clinical practice, medical education, and biomechanics research. He previously served with Advanced Orthopedics New England and as Medical Director of the Spine Institute of Connecticut at Saint Francis Hospital, and held a longstanding role as Clinical Assistant Professor at UConn School of Medicine.

What makes this announcement especially meaningful is that Dr. Kruger has been an active member of MakerspaceCT since 2022. He regularly uses our laser cutters, metal shop, 3D printers, and textiles resources and has become a familiar face at events like Innovation Bytes. His transition from member to Board member reflects a genuine appreciation for our community and mission.

His background in teaching, mentorship, and applied problem-solving aligns well with our commitment to hands-on learning and workforce development.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kruger to the Board.

We kicked off Summer STEAM 2026 with VR week! Students explored educational games like Mission: ISS and a physics simulator. They also used Gravity Sketch to create 3D models, which they also 3D printed! Group activities for the week included a game critique/review and a pitch competition for their new VR game concepts!

We appreciate first-time students Madison, Essence, and Rashawna for sharing their experiences!

Thank you to our funders, Justice Education Center and Greater Hartford Gives, for their support of Summer STEAM 2026
