He Memorized the Entire Qur'an. Then His Life Changed Forever 06/05/2026

Millions of Muslims around the world take on the challenge of memorizing the entire Qur’an for spiritual, cultural, and practical reasons. Upon attaining such a highly recognized status, they receive the title of Hafiz or Hafiza (the feminine), an Arabic word meaning "guardian" or "protector." It refers to one who has preserved the Qur'an in their heart, ensuring the text is flawlessly protected against alteration over time. Hakiki, an Indonesian scholar who studied at HIU through the PKUMI program, is one of them.

Michael Centore, editor of Tomorrow's American Catholic, attended Hartford International University's Spiritualities of Resilience symposium and left with far more than a story. "The experience went beyond simple "journalistic" coverage - it touched my soul and inspired me in many ways, and there was a palpable feeling of closeness amongst the participants by the closing prayer at the end of the day," Michael said. Read his full coverage of the day's keynotes on ecological collapse, earth-centering spirituality, and bioregional resilience.

Dr. Lucinda Mosher and Dr. David Grafton recently facilitated a virtual workshop with the Kaduna Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations, bringing together 25 Muslim and Christian leaders from northern Nigeria to read and reflect on passages from the Bible and the Qur'an together. After gathering in person last year, this year's session moved to Zoom. This workshop is part of a joint leadership certificate program between the Macdonald Center and the Kaduna Centre, fostering understanding and collaboration between faith communities.
