Big news!

SGCI is proud to announce our Cities and COVID online portal. This curated resource offers extensive and growing research from universities, research centers, governmental and multilateral agencies, and trade organizations on the effect of the pandemic on cities and on strategies cities are contemplating for developing resilience to pandemics.

Calling all UConn faculty with cities-related research projects: The 2021 SGCI Faculty Research Grant Competition is NOW OPEN and accepting applications!

To help further the SGCI’s mission of supporting and expanding urban research at UConn, research faculty will be invited to submit proposals for two programs: (1) Research project grants (awards up to $10,000) and (2) Grant development (awards up to $2,500). In this year’s competition, separate funding has also been allocated to projects addressing urban issues in developing countries.

Attention all UConn undergraduates!

The SGCI is proud to offer our second annual prize for undergraduate students in 2020-21 UConn courses who produced writing that engages with the city of Hartford. There are two prize categories available: one for first-year undergraduates, and one for all undergraduates regardless of year. Multimodal entries with visual or audio elements are welcome. This competition is open to ALL UConn undergrads at every campus!

Entries can be submitted by either students themselves OR faculty members on a student’s behalf. Check out the contest guidelines and submit your entry before June 1st, 2021 at s.uconn.edu/undergrad_award_2021.
