There are some people whose presence quietly makes a community stronger. Claiborne County Mayor Joe Brooks was one of those people.

Today, the Lincoln Memorial University Social Work Program and the SHARE Club mourn the heartbreaking and unexpected loss of one of our own; a dear friend, fellow social worker, and unwavering champion of our profession.

Mayor Brooks never had to make time for our students, but he always did. He celebrated with us, encouraged us, and faithfully attended our events because he believed that investing in future social workers was an investment in the future of our communities. His kindness, humility, and genuine interest in others never went unnoticed.

As a social worker himself, Mayor Brooks understood that service is more than a profession, it is a calling. He led with compassion, integrity, and a servant's heart, reminding us that leadership is measured not only by the offices we hold, but by the lives we touch. His steadfast support of our program and our students made a lasting difference, and his legacy will continue through the many people he encouraged along the way.

Our hearts are heavy as we try to make sense of such a tragic loss. It is difficult to imagine our community without his warm smile, quiet encouragement, and unwavering belief in serving others.

On behalf of the LMU Social Work faculty, students, alumni, and the SHARE Club, we extend our deepest sympathy to Mayor Brooks' family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you, Joe, for believing in our students, believing in social work, and believing in the power of compassion to change lives. We are better because you walked beside us.

You will be deeply missed, and your legacy of service will not be forgotten.
