To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026, Burrillville Town Council member David Houle led the effort in collaboration with the BHS Social Studies department to involve students in a time capsule project. After months spent gathering meaningful "artifacts," students from Ms. Blanchette, Ms. Stanton and Ms. Lamontagne’s classes gathered at Freedom Park in Harrisville on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, for the official burial ceremony. During the event, participants shared insights on how their chosen items represent local life in 2026 and voiced their aspirations for the community and the nation. This new capsule now rests alongside its 1976 counterpart, both are set to be unearthed in 2076 when the United States celebrates the Nation’s Tricentennial.

Tonight, our seniors received their yearbooks at the traditional class dinner. Underclassmen will receive theirs this week during school hours. Special thanks to Mrs. Sciacca, our CTE Graphic Communications Program students and our 2026 yearbook editor in chief, Helena Fleming, for their efforts in capturing the school year through such an incredible lens! πŸ“– πŸ“Έ πŸ“”

On Thursday, May 21, 96 students enrolled in Civics and Contemporary Issues, Law and Society and AP US Government and Politics spent the day at the Rhode Island State House. There, students were met by Representative David Place of District 47. Students debated in a mock legislature about a variety of topics and even cast a mock vote. Students also were given a guided tour of the State House and were able to see, amongst other things, the RI Charter on display from 1663. Overall, it was a fantastic day! We especially thank Representative Place for taking the time to work with our students and answer any questions they had!
