♥️ 🐮There’s something beautiful about seeing our children walk the same paths, stand in the same show rings, sweep the same stalls and make memories that we hope they’ll someday pass down to their own children.

Generations before us spent long hot summer days in the show ring, working their show heifers, learning the value of hard work, responsibility, and dedication through 4-H and FFA.

This summer, that tradition continued—not just with my sisters, but with ALL of our kids- all 9 of my mom and dad’s grandkids showed their heifers this summer. What started with our Great Grandpa Les buying some dairy cows in the 40’s, is a legacy continued on by the youngest generation of our family.

Honoring the past. Raising the next generation. Carrying on the tradition. 🐮 ♥️

Climbing trees, carrying logs, and exploring the woods are all forms of heavy work—activities that help children develop strength, coordination, body awareness, and self-regulation. 💚

Growing up on a dairy farm, I spent my summers in 4-H and FFA showing our heifers and cows. I love watching my own kids do the same thing. First show of the summer was great! ♥️

We have to learn to separate what looks impressive from what actually matters.

A child sitting quietly, completing worksheets, memorizing facts, and following directions may look more advanced. That doesn't mean they're developing a stronger brain.

If pushing formal academics earlier truly led to better long-term outcomes, we would have decades of evidence proving it by now.

We don't.

Instead, the research continues to point us back to the same conclusion: children learn best through play, movement, relationships, meaningful experiences, and time. Development cannot be rushed. It follows a biological sequence, whether we respect it or not.

We can keep making childhood look more academic, or we can start making it more developmentally appropriate. The research is becoming increasingly clear that those are not the same thing. Our children deserve decisions grounded in development, not appearances. Be informed. Be intentional.
