Sometimes the best conversations happen after the session ends. 💜

These new JMU Marketing majors stayed behind after their Weeks of Welcome major session to ask questions, talk about getting involved, and share their excitement about what lies ahead. So, of course, we had to capture the moment!

With nearly 300 first-year students choosing Marketing, the Class of 2030 is bringing some serious energy and enthusiasm to our program.

Welcome to JMU Marketing! We can’t wait to see where you take it!

A new academic year brings us a new colleague! 🤝 Please join us in welcoming our new Assistant Professor of Marketing, Dr. Josh Groves, who joins the JMU College of Business from Washington State University!

This fall, Dr. Groves will teach COB 300 and join the Center for Professional Sales team. His research focuses on consumer behavior and decision-making, with a focus on the impact of pain.

Outside the classroom, he is looking forward to exploring the Shenandoah Valley with his family and has made it a personal goal to sample every pie in the county.

👇 Drop a comment to welcome Dr. Groves, and share your bakery recommendations if you have them! We are delighted to have you with us, Dr. Groves!

🎉 Kicking off the 2026-27 academic year by celebrating two outstanding faculty members! Yesterday, the College of Business recognized top faculty and staff at the Annual College of Business Opening Meeting and Faculty and Staff Awards Ceremony. We're excited to share two standout recognitions from the Department of Marketing faculty:

🌟 Dr. William Faranda, Associate Professor of Marketing, earned 3rd place for the Teaching and Learning Publication Award for his article "From Principles of Marketing to the Capstone Course: A Comparison of Marketing Students' Approaches to Learning," published in Marketing Education Review.

Dr. Faranda has also been promoted to Full Professor, effective at the start of this academic year!

🌟 Prof. Steve Kozak, Assistant Director of the Center for Professional Sales and Lecturer in Marketing, received the Accenture Innovation Faculty Award, honoring his innovative approaches to teaching, integration of AI, and experiential curriculum.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Faranda and Prof. Kozak on these well-deserved recognitions — and Dr. Faranda on his well-earned promotion to Full Professor! What a great way to start the year! 👏

Our final student of the 2025-2026 Academic Year is Jack Scott!

Jack is a senior at James Madison University pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a concentration in Professional Sales. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, he is set to graduate this May. Jack is a motivated and driven student with a strong interest in relationship-building, leadership, and sales.

During his time at JMU, Jack has maintained a strong academic record, earning Dean’s List honors in his last two semesters. He has been highly involved in student life, currently serving as an Event Operations Manager at the Student Success Center. In this role, he has developed his leadership and communication skills by mentoring fellow student employees, managing daily operations, and building meaningful relationships across campus.

Jack is also an active member of JMU Club Basketball, where he has taken on a leadership role as the team prepares to compete in nationals. In addition, he is a member of the business fraternity Phi Gamma Nu, where he has continued to grow both personally and professionally through networking, professional development, and collaboration with peers.

This past summer, Jack interned with Cintas in their First Aid & Safety division, where he gained hands-on experience in sales and client engagement. He shadowed service representatives in the field, observing how they communicate with decision-makers and deliver value-driven solutions. Jack was also integrated into the branch’s leadership environment, learning directly from managers about operations and strategy. As part of his capstone project, he conducted cold outreach to former customers, promoting a CPR certification open house initiative. This effort helped generate additional revenue for the branch while strengthening his prospecting, communication, and business development skills.

Jack’s combination of leadership experience, academic achievement, and professional development has prepared him well for a future career in sales. He looks forward to continuing to grow his skills and making a meaningful impact in his post-graduate career.
