Since 2007, Second Home Learning Center has served hundreds of children in the HCPS area. Housed in the Muhlenberg Activities Center of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg, VA. offers academically focused before and after school care for students from Spotswood, Waterman, Smithland Elementary Schools and the two middle schools. As a licensed day care center, Second Home LC. can accommodat

e up to 100 children enrolled in grades K - 7th. Our mission is to ensure that children of low-income families have access to safe, quality child care, academic enrichment and tutoring, as well as social-emotional skills development. We are the only before school care in the city that opens at 6:00 AM in the city and that is affordable to the lowest income families. Low, all inclusive fees make Second Home L.C. affordable for any family. All students are scholarshipped.

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month! Second Home relies on volunteer help in so many ways like tutors and program assistants, and homework helpers. We harness local expertise through visiting artists, musicians, and dancers. Our amazing Board of Directors give time, talent, and support to our program regularly. Volunteers are essential, and a vibrant part of our operation. A huge thank you to all who have helped Second Home continue its operation and provide the much needed before and after school care in Harrisonburg.
