We strive to promote and enhance the field of volunteer and career firefighting through education and training provided here at JMU and through outside fire departments. We also provide a medium for JMU students who desire to volunteer in the community.

In Rural America, There Are Few People Left to Drive the Ambulances For decades, states with a lot of land and not a lot of hospitals have relied on volunteer services to respond to medical emergencies. Today, that system faces collapse.

Thank you to the Harrisonburg Fire Department for having us out to help teach fire safety on Court Square!
We had a great time welcoming first year students from JMU. We talked to them about fire safety and had fire extinguisher demonstrations. Lastly, we did a live burn to show students why you should never put water on a grease fire!

Hey Everyone, Check out this important message from the Harrisonburg Fire Department regarding an ordinance requiring mulch to remain 18 inches away from a combustible structure. This ordinance is being challenged by the Virginia Legislature! Why is this is important? Many fires in large structures were ignited by freshly laid mulch including an apartment fire causing over $500,000 in damage and displacing dozens two years ago.
