We offer classes to area high school and adult students in a variety of career areas. Massanutten Technical Center is a leader in the Commonwealth of Virginia in career and technical education. 62,800 carpenter openings every year. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects about 62,800 openings for carpenters annually from 2025–2035, driven by both industry growth and the need to replace workers who leave the occupation or retire.

Construction needs skilled workers now. As of August 2026, the U.S. construction industry had approximately 251,000 unfilled jobs, while industry employment had grown by about 120,000 jobs over the previous year.

Today we talk with Carpentry instructor Mr. Travis Knight about how the program is beneficial to students and the community, and how it isn’t just the skills, but the “soft skills” that are needed in order for a student to succeed in the future! Great perspective!

Yesterday afternoon, some cool 5th graders from Lacey Springs ES toured through Criminal Justice, Automotive Tech, Cybersecurity, and HVAC, and had a hands-on learning good time!

Yesterday began our annual month of Fifth Grade Tours! Over the next few weeks, each fifth grade class from RCPS will visit MTC and tour through our amazing hands-on programs! Yesterday the amazing students from John C. Myers toured through our Welding, Health Careers, Collision Repair, and Architecture classes. They had a blast!

DID YOU KNOW? America needs approximately 62,800 new carpenters every year.

Carpentry teaches much more than how to build. Students learn to read blueprints, measure accurately, apply mathematics, safely operate tools, solve problems, work as a team, manage materials, and turn plans into finished products—skills that transfer throughout construction and the skilled trades.
