"I Outrigger for connection. Through our programming, we are able to facilitate positive relationships and growth within organizations. I am inspired by everyone I am surrounded with, by our participants' willingness to grow and by my fellow Outriggers' intentionality. I am constantly encouraged to expand my comfort zone, which allows me to encourage others to do the same. “I Outrigger because of the opportunity for service and the community that I have been introduced to. Service is something that I hold very close to my heart, and Outriggers allows me to do this in a completely new and creative way. By helping other organizations reach their full potential, we give them the tools to grow individually and with each other. Furthermore, the members within Outriggers are some of the most fun and authentic people I have ever met. I love getting to spend time with them and getting to know each of them on a deeper level. I believe this organization invests in the JMU and Harrisonburg communities in positive, lasting, and meaningful ways. Beautifully inspiring and brilliant people make up these communities, and getting the chance to interact with them in such a unique way is a gift. “I Outrigger because I am able to make a tangible difference from the personal level to the community level. Cultivating leadership skills have given me a chance to see myself in a new light and to understand that everyone is a leader in some fashion or another. Knowing and sharing this knowledge through seeing people in different organizations actively take up responsibility is a big reason for why I Outrigger. Even if it’s through a simple discussion, I love to see the potential in people be used, especially in service to others. I love to inspire others to use the gifts they have been given. It’s also pretty radical to meet so many faces who love their org, love JMU, and love service! It’s been a privilege to meet these people and be inspired myself to become a better person. Outriggers is a community where I have felt included, empowered, and inspired to accomplish.”

“First, I Outrigger because this organization connects me to all of the other organizations in the community. Outriggers is an avenue to build my skills, express my passions, and ultimately serve JMU. This university has been a blessing to me and facilitating programs is how I am able to give back.
