CHBS students have the opportunity to participate in summer study abroad courses around the world. Senior Health Sciences major, Laken Schofield traveled to Europe as part of the Estonia+Spain: Global Healthcare program. Here's what she had to say…

"This program aligned with my major and my career goals and it was truly life changing! While on the trip, we visited several hospitals and healthcare facilities in both countries, which provided us vast knowledge on the key similarities and differences between the healthcare systems of the United States and Europe. The opportunity to observe the functions of the hospitals and healthcare facilities gave me a better understanding of how global healthcare operates.

Aside from the hospital visits, we had structured schedules with numerous fun activities. One of my favorite activities was taking a day trip to Guadalest and seeing the beautiful waterfall, Algar, in Spain. We also took cooking classes in both countries that allowed us to prepare dishes and appreciate the food culture in both Spain and Estonia.

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am so grateful for the friends I have met and our teachers for showing us around and teaching us new information!"

A generous donation will now make a nursing education possible for more JMU students!

The Bedford Falls Foundation has partnered with JMU to launch the Conway Scholarships, helping remove financial barriers for 60 students preparing to enter the nursing workforce.

With demand for nurses continuing to grow across Virginia and the nation, this investment will help support the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The first scholarships will be awarded this fall!
