“There’s something in the water among Mennonite theologians and peace building scholars and practitioners…around the decolonial project that people are drinking from now that is interesting and quite good,” says Andrew Suderman.

“Hay algo en el estanque de los teólogos menonitas, académicos y practicantes de la construcción de paz en torno al proyecto descolonización, de la cual las personas están bebiendo ahora, lo cual que es interesante y bastante bueno...” expresa Andrew Suderman.

« Il y a quelque chose dans l’air ambiant parmi les théologiens mennonites, les spécialistes de la construction de la paix et les praticiens autour du projet décolonial ..., qui est à la fois intéressant et très bon » , dit Andrew Suderman.

How do Mennonites think about peace? | Anabaptist World 07/18/2023

An article by our own Dr. Andrew G. Suderman!

How do Mennonites think about peace? | Anabaptist World Anabaptist World invited me to reflect on this interesting, but rather daunting question: “How do Mennonites think about peace?” This is daunting because who am I – a white, cis-gendered, North American male – to respond to such a question? Clearly, I cannot offer an overarching, uniform def...

Anabaptist Witness - "Mission and Protest"
In the opening essay, Andrew Suderman defines protest movements as political challenges to unjust regimes; these regimes rely on policing to contain and crush protest and so maintain their grip on society. For Suderman, as for Harding, Christian discipleship entails joining Jesus’s defiance of domination, and so preparing to face—and protest—police power. Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery

Learn more about this movement of Anabaptist people of faith here: https://dofdmenno.org/

"The Doctrine of Discovery is enshrined in both church and state. It is a legal doctrine that is practiced in international law and policy, and well as the domestic legal systems of countries around the globe. The Doctrine of Discovery is also a Christian doctrine dating to the 15th century. It is still practiced by Christian traditions around the globe, systematically dispossessing Indigenous Peoples of their ancestral lands and human rights. We believe that it is now the church’s responsibility to undo the Doctrine of Discovery in the name of Christ."
