Eastern Mennonite University has named the Rev. Dr. Shannon W. Dycus as its 10th president, effective July 1, 2026.
After serving as interim president since July 2025, Dr. Dycus has provided steady, collaborative leadership while advancing EMU's mission and strengthening the student experience. She is the first Black woman to lead EMU as president.
Join us in congratulating Dr. Dycus on this historic appointment!

A new art therapy minor for students majoring in studio art, psychology, and art education will be offered at EMU this fall. Combining coursework in Visual and Communication Arts (VACA) and psychology, the minor opens additional career pathways for graduates, expands opportunities to serve communities, and provides a foundation for graduate study.

When Harrisonburg High School graduate Lizzie Barrera chose a location for her senior photos, she picked a place she'll soon call home.
Lizzie will join the EMU community this fall, and we're so excited to welcome her to campus. ๐

You can also schedule an in-person or virtual visit to get a feel for campus life and learn more about our programs.
Students who visit through the Admissions Office by Dec. 23, 2026, can qualify for a Visit Grant worth $1,000 per year for up to four years if they enroll in Fall 2027!

EMU has named Nathan K. Leopard as its new vice president for advancement. He starts June 1.
Nathan has over 20 years of higher education leadership experience and most recently served as director of development for the Virginia Tech Pamplin College of Business. Prior to that, he spent nearly a decade at The Pennsylvania State University.
As a Harrisonburg resident for the past five years, he already shares a deep appreciation for the Shenandoah Valley and a strong personal commitment to EMUโs distinctive mission.
โAs vice president for advancement, I look forward to strengthening our culture of generosity, expanding our philanthropic reach, and helping secure the resources necessary to sustain and grow this mission,โ he said.
