A note & art from Ms. Amelia on summer camp:
“This summer, I found a special place. A place that supports the kind of learning that feels like the way learning and play was meant to be. In the great outdoors, with dirty hands and curious hearts, in both rain and sunshine. We ate edible plants, picked native flowers, discovered extraordinary creatures hiding beneath leaves and logs, and let the land become our classroom. We learned by wondering, by noticing, by touching, tasting, asking questions, and following our curiosity wherever it led. There is so much beauty watching sweet children discover the world this way. To see wonder become knowledge, and knowledge become confidence to do something. To remember that learning does not need walls it just needs you and your curious mind.
I feel so lucky to have spent this summer immersed in the wonder of the land around us. Cambium became more than a place I worked. Somewhere along the way, it became a little pocket of love, hope, joy, and discovery that I wasn’t quite ready to leave. I definitely shed some tears on the way home on our last day.
I have never before mourned the feeling of summer slipping through my fingers. Usually, by this time, I am ready for the rhythm of a new school year. But tonight, on the eve of the first day, I find myself missing it. Missing the muddy feet. The plants. The animals. The laughter. The endless questions. The feeling that every day held the possibility of discovering something extraordinary in our pocket of the world.
More than anything, I hope I can carry a little of that magic with me this year.
I hope I remember to make room for wonder. To let a child’s curiosity lead. To notice the small things in even smaller moments. To remember that our world itself is a classroom, and that every child and every teacher deserves the chance to experience learning that feels alive and always in motion.
Summer may be slipping away, but my wonder doesn’t have to.
I will carry a little piece of Cambium Nature School with me in my pocket into the new school year. I hope, in some small way, I can help bring that same sense of love, hope, joy, and discovery wherever I am. Lots of love ❤️“
