July blog is up on the website! I've been reflecting a lot on the impulse to "swallow" our feelings and how damaging it can be.
& no, Chandler, that doesn't sound good.
Eat food, not emotions
How many times have you heard the phrase, “swallow your anger?” Or your sadness, grief, frustration, disappointment, insecurity, fear, or shame? With that phrase comes a rule that you don’t get to feel those feelings, they are taboo, and you must shove them down. “Be the bigger person.” .....

🙊 ….. And it’s also okay to love yourself as you are.
I feel like we’re in this “all or nothing space” of either:
1. Giving in to every want and desire in the name of self-esteem & self-love and trying to force yourself to accept parts of you that aren’t serving you in the long run.
✨✨Or✨✨
2. Spending too much time body checking, criticizing, judging, and forcing ourselves into strict diets, unhealthy “fitness challenges,” and forgetting to just ~be~ in the process.
But you can do both without being disordered or unhealthy. Skip a workout to spend time with family, have a slice of cake for your child’s birthday. But also notice when you feel pressured to drink at dinner even though you’re proud of your progress and advocate for that! And it’s okay to schedule in time for a work out and prioritize that when making plans with friends. When others try and vilify or minimize your desire to be better and focus on GROWTH, it’s usually an indication of their own insecurity.
You’ll never get to where you want to be unless you put in the work. And you don’t have to settle for less than you want in life just to have self-love either. YOU ARE WORTH IT. Let that sink in.

Anxiety, stress, and unresolved emotions can keep you feeling stuck and lost. It’s not always through a lack of working out or poor diet, but that’s usually where we go to place judgment. Health, however, is connected to our thoughts & emotions and not everything can be solved on the treadmill. Sometimes it calls for a different kind of work to find yourself.

How many times “should” you do or be something each day? How often do those shoulds make you feel confident, happy, healthy, and content?
How often do they come out of a place of judgment?
Here’s a little reminder that you shouldn’t be anyone other than who are and you are exactly where you need to be. They don’t say “life is a destination.” Remember, it’s a journey.

Our physical symptoms are nothing more than information to be used to best nourish our bodies. You wouldn’t criticize a ficus for wilting, so why hate on your unbelievably complex and amazing body for telling you what it needs?

These 16 circles represent just a few of the countless areas of “wellness.” That’s 16+ different professionals, different theories, different schools of thought, etc. It’s very overwhelming.
What if I told you they are all connected? Your thoughts + emotions influence your diet + physical health. Your physical health then influences your self-perception causing stress, which influences your physical health and spiritual well-being … and around & around we go.
We live in a world of disintegration. The way we diet, think, seek wellness, and exercise. You go to the gym to work your legs, cardio to help your heart, & do abs so you feel worthwhile. What we’ve done is over-compartmentalize ourselves leaving us feeling chaotic and out of touch.
My goal is never to replace these professionals (please keep going to the doctor), but to advocate for your inner spirit just BEGGING for some integration.
Rarely do we appreciate the interconnectedness of Being. I think it’s time we start.
