MTC Fire-Rescue

As an instructor you need to get with like minded instructors and compare notes. As a fire and EMS instructor that can be difficult to find locally, but I have spent the past 2️⃣ days, in Detroit, filling my cup with some amazing instructors from across the US. Thank you to the NFFF for making the High School Fire & EMS Cadet Symposium a successful conference.

When we tell the students to please bring a change of clothes and a towel on the last day we just hope they don't forget them!!! Water, water, and more water, and today was the perfect day for hose line soccer, bucket brigades, and chocking sprinkler heads!!!!!

Of course, we ended the morning with some snow cones to cool off even more!!!!

Though Tower 90 wasn’t able to make an appearance today, they will be here tomorrow, these students still completed some fun hands-on activities!!!!!

🧯🔥They were able to put out real fire with fire extinguishers, see how a thermal imaging camera works, 🪣wash the fire engine 🧽and learn all about communications using legos!!!🔨

💦Hope they don’t forget a change of clothes tomorrow because there will be a lot of different activities with water!!!!💦

A lot of hands on learning to include Hands-Only cpr, helping a choking victim, how to stop bleeding and simple splinting. With parents permission, we walked across the road and toured HFD Station 2 and looked at all the equipment on Engine 2!!!!

The past two days have been packed with great activities!!!!!
🚒MTC ‘Be a Hero’ Academy started on Monday with 10 middle school students from various county and city schools.
After getting to know one another on Monday they learned about fire service history with a tour at the Harrisonburg Fire Museum and ended their morning learning about fire gear!!!
This morning they learned how important smoke alarms are, why they need to practice E.D.I.T.H (Exit Drill in the Home), drew their own escape plan, saved some babies from the smoke filled safety house and learned how to properly use fire extinguishers.
So much more planned for the rest of the week so stay tuned!!!!! 🚒

No matter the outcome-these students worked hard and had fun!!!!! Now to go enjoy the rest of the day and eat some real food!!!!🍗🍟

Took the students to Cupps-All Parts to do some cutting, bending, displacing, distorting, rolling and lifting. Vehicle Rescue and Extrication is always a favorite!!!!
