Hey Band Fans!
Band Booster Treasurer here. I’ve been watching something amazing and I want to tell you about it. We are in the 3rd week of summer band. The kids (and the Directors) have been working so hard. This year’s show is going to be AWESOME! But what most of you don’t see happening behind the scenes is how our community is coming together to make sure these kids are fed well while they work all day long on marching. Last week, FIVE area churches cooked and fed 100 people every single day for lunch. Another business brought dinner on Friday night so the kids could relax and bond over game night after a long, tiring week. This isn’t new. They’ve been doing it for years.
And for the past few weeks, the Band Boosters have been contacting local businesses to make sure the band is fed before every home game so they can concentrate on practice after a full day of school. We’ve also been asking for sponsorships and donations for the upcoming trip to Memphis to compete at Bands of America for the first time ever. The community is SHOWING UP! It’s not just the band asking for money, it’s just about every sports team, cheerleader team, and so many other school organizations that are looking for the extra funds that are required to create these incredible experiences for our kids.
Every time we have contacted a local business, they have cheerfully and enthusiastically written that check, telling us that they are happy to support the band. And it’s not just businesses! We’re getting donations from individuals who are genuinely excited about helping the band make it to Memphis.
Y’all, our community is amazing!
We are surrounded by so many local businesses that are supporting ALL THE THINGS our local kids are involved in. The next time you’re scrolling the socials or looking at printed sports programs, pay attention to those merchants who are giving away their money to make sure the community’s kids get to participate. Show them your appreciation! It takes a ton of funding that does not come from the school district to make all these things happen and we could not do it without our local businesses.
I’m proud to be a part of it! And if you want to be a part of it, scan the QR code. Regardless, be sure to catch the band’s show, Eye See You, during halftime at home football games. Go Gobs!
