The WCBUA will hold a Fall Certification Class for new Umpires Oct. 20, 22, 27 & 29 from 7-9 p.m. at the West Harrison Senior Center (251 Underhill Ave., West Harrison).

Successful completion of the in-person class and an online component will give the candidate WCBUA membership and eligibility to umpire high school baseball games in Westchester and Putnam in the spring of 2027.

Cost is $140 for annual WCBUA membership dues and $50 for the online course component. For more information, contact WCBUA Secretary Dave Greiner at 914-588-5373 or [email protected].

Football kicked off last week across Section One. Today, student-athletes in all fall sports are back to the action for the first day of practice. Good luck to the athletes, coaches and teams on the launch of a memorable 2026 season!

Interested in becoming a high school girls basketball official?

The Westchester/Putnam Women’s Basketball Officials Association (WPWBOA) is offering a New Candidate Clinic beginning in September 2026.

Candidates must be 18 or older and live or work in Westchester or Putnam County. College students attending school in either county are also eligible. Certification requires successful completion of the required written and floor examinations.

We’re proud to recognize Section One Assistant Director Jesse Merchant for his participation in the NFHS National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis this month. Mr. Merchant served as the chaperone for New York’s two student representatives.

Bringing together representatives from 34 states and three countries, the summit focuses on empowering student-athletes through leadership development, mental health awareness, and responsible communication—both on and off the field.

Through sessions on team culture, social media responsibility, and navigating adversity, this experience helps shape stronger leaders within our athletic communities.

Section One is committed to supporting opportunities that elevate student voice, promote well-being, and strengthen the future of education-based athletics.

Paul McClintock, a dedicated Section One swimming and diving official, was inducted into the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame on Wednesday evening at the Hyatt Regency in Buffalo.

McClintock’s distinguished career spans more than four decades, including serving as the NYSPHSAA Championships head diving referee for 25 years and head swim official for five years. He has officiated over 2,000 youth and scholastic meets and has been a cornerstone of championship competition, working 40 Section One Boys and Girls Championship meets.

Since 1997, he has served as the official rules interpreter for Section One and has held the same role at the state level since 2018. His leadership also includes time as President of both the Westchester and New York State swim officials associations. He is also a member of the Westchester Sports Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to Paul McClintock on this well-deserved recognition of an outstanding career!

Section One and the Center for Interscholastic Athletics, in partnership with Southern Westchester BOCES, are proud to announce the appointment of Rebecca DiSisto-Leslie as Supervisor of Athletics and Physical Education.

With 15 years of experience in the Lakeland Central School District—including her most recent role as Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics—DiSisto-Leslie brings a strong background in student-centered leadership.
