We celebrate our 2026 graduates Joshua Lohr (BS Physics) and John Hargy (BS Biophysics)! These friends distinguished themselves in their studies, in their leadership of our Society of Physics Students chapter, and in their service as Learning Assistants and Tutors.

What do lean manufacturing initiatives, cobots, crock pots, and engineering students have in common? Efficient productivity, I'd say. These all came together today in our engineering seminar series, in a talk titled "Engineering projects and initiatives at Stanley Black & Decker" by HR Manager Bryan Coleman and Engineering Manager Sean MacGregor. Our speakers came prepared to share with students their business cards and detailed information about the 2023 US internship at Stanley Black & Decker, such as that the hourly pay rates for interns range from $20 (after the freshman year) to $26 (after the senior year). They plan on a "conversion rate" of interns to new hires of about 50%.

This alumni weekend, we are enjoying the peak autumn colors and the return of familiar friendly faces to our campus. One alumnus that we are particularly glad to see is Mrs. Joylynn Scott, now that she has moved back to Collegedale and is helping our growing department out as our new office manager!

Last Friday night, our Engineering and Physics clubs joined with the Chemistry and Math clubs to have a campout right by the lake (at Harrison Bay State Park). On Sabbath morning, we made breakfast (including dutch oven peach cobbler), then we joined the rest of the departments for the annual "fall outing".

Now that we are starting a BS Engineering program, we have split the club into both a new Engineering club and what is now a chapter of the national Society of Physics Students (SPS). The clubs meet together to plan joint activities (such as our fall campout this month). Daniel Marquez is our first "King of Engineers" (that's the title they chose).

For the second week in a row, a visiting high school senior joined our Friday afternoon research work, constructing a beam line and learning ultra-high vacuum disciplines. Come visit us: we’ll put you to work!
