AOO's home may reside within a rural community in central Michigan, but that doesn't keep us from accomplishing great things! Established by Missouri two-year college presidents in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, l

eadership and service programming. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.5 million members and 1,200 chapters located in all 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Guam and --more recently-- Peru. In 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges. The PTK Honors Study Topic this year is The Power of Stories. Have you ever wondered how our AOO chapter got the nickname Wolfpack? Well let me tell you the story!

In 2011, our group was sitting in the hot sun doing a yard sale fundraiser at my house. It was a slow time and suddenly someone (probably James, as we all know he likes to run in the woods like squirrels do) stated that AOO sounds like a wolf howl. The sun was making us all silly, so natrually we all agreed and started howling like wolves. Danae, one of our officers and an amazing artist, sat and drew each one of us as wolves. Ever since then, we have called ourselves, and have become known in the PTK family as the AOO Wolfpack from Mid Michigan College.

AOOooooooooooooooooh!

PS. The story of James and squirrels: James ran for Michigan Region Officer that year, and was elected. :) When asked during the caucus if he could be any animal what would it be and why, he did not state wolf, he said squirrel as they run through trees all day it it looks really fun! LOL
