It’s been a great run, Mavericks. Thanks for the memories.

I started leading in the MC in 2016 with no idea what I was doing, and you supported me and grew the library program with me all along. From indoor badminton to [un]washed grapes to near-unsolvable breakouts to spacewalks on the big screen, Mavericks young and grown brought the energy that shaped this place into what it has been for so many of us—home.

It was never a one-person movement. It wasn’t me, or Ms. Wilt, or Ms. Hunter, or the OG Ms. Tyson. It was YOU all along, my friends. So keep it going! Keep the big ideas flowing, keep working together to solve problems and answer questions, and most of all, keep supporting each other with all the joy and grace you’ve shared with me over the last ten years.

I’ll still be rooting for you like I have all along, just from farther away now.

The Poetry was Slammin’ for the fourth year in a row! The Poetry Slam happened back in April, but it’s definitely worth recounting it now.

We had lots of family, staff, and friends show up to support the many students who showed up to read poetry! Our readers shared original poems and some favorites, and staff members joined in with poems and moments of gratitude. We also had two creative and witty hosts and a few mini-reunions. It was a lovely evening!

Thank you to everyone who helped make it a success!

You're invited! Come join our Hickory Ridge Middle School students and staff as we celebrate the power of the spoken word!

Eleven students and several staff have signed up to share their original or favorite poems, and we can't wait for you to hear from them! Enjoy the vibe as we turn the MC into a coffee shop-style open mic.

Doors open for poetry-themed activities and mingling at 5:30, readings start at 6:00.
