In the last few weeks, TEF Program Specialist Sadie Michel visited Kadima facilities at Mt. Lebanon and Monroeville to chat with members about their career and life goals and help them learn about their union education benefits.

We make these visits regularly to make sure eligible SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania members have real, direct access to the resources available to them through the Training and Education Fund.

Last week, eight new nurse aides graduated from our Nurse Aide Training Center in a ceremony hosted by Healthcare North Huntingdon in Irwin, Pa. Since its inception last year, our CNA Training Hub has ushered 49 nurse aide graduates through classwork and clinicals to graduation.

Pennsylvania’s long-term care sector faces a serious challenge that continues to grow. CNA turnover in the state exceeds 50%, driven by physically and emotionally demanding work conditions, stiff competition for staff between nursing homes and hospitals, and a significant shortage of accessible training opportunities — particularly in rural and outlying communities. Our CNA Training Hub was formed to combat that challenge head-on.

It’s with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of our coworker and friend, Sandy Marwick. Sandy has been an instructor with us since 2018. She was a wonderful teacher with a great passion for the caregivers she treasured. We are grateful to have met and worked with her and, most of all, to have learned from her. She will be deeply missed by us all. ❤️
