A huge thank you to Senator Lisa M. Boscola, prime sponsor of Senate Bill 1343 (SB 1343), for introducing PACCC's PA Works legislation!

This critical bill is focused on expanding and strengthening career and technical education (CTE) and building stronger pipelines into the building and construction trades across Pennsylvania.

We are incredibly grateful for Senator Boscola's leadership, as well as the strong support of the bill’s co-sponsors: Senator Tina Tartaglione, Senator Joe Picozzi, Senator Maria Collett, Sen. James Malone, Senator Vincent Hughes, Senator Carolyn Comitta, Senator Amanda Cappelletti, and Senator Jay Costa.

What SB 1343 does:
🔹 Expands existing CTE equipment grants to support building trades youth camps and pre-apprenticeship programs.
🔹 Requires community colleges to offer annual construction/building trades youth camps for 7th and 8th graders.
🔹 Establishes formal pre-apprenticeship programs using the National Association of Building Trade Unions’ Multi-Craft Core Curriculum.

Next Step: The legislation has been referred to the Senate Education Committee.

👉 Take Action Today: Call your State Senator and urge them to support SB 1343! If they aren’t a sponsor yet, ask them to add their name to this great list of advocates for PA’s workforce.

Another great example of the value that community colleges bring to residents. Congratulations, Maria!

🎓 Tonight, Maria will walk across the stage at Franklin Regional High School...but she already crossed ours! As a College in High School student, Maria earned not one, but TWO college degrees - Liberal Arts and Legal Studies/Paralegal - before graduating high school. Congratulations, Maria, on this incredible achievement! 👏

In celebration of America's semiquincentennial, the Hicks Art Center Gallery at Bucks County Community College will host "Visions of America," an invitational group exhibition beginning today through July 25 on the Newtown Campus.

The multimedia showcase seamlessly blends contemporary art with significant historical loans, brought together by local artists and cultural organizations, to capture select evolutionary moments of the country’s 250-year history told through both human and animal perspectives.

The public is invited to an opening reception today, Friday, June 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission to the gallery and reception is free.

This week, several of our member community colleges are hosting the Rural Talent Development and Attraction Lab Listening Tour of Pennsylvania this week. A collaboration by the Alliance for Research on Regional Colleges, SHEEO (State Higher Education Executive Officers Association), and HCM Strategists, and is generously funded by Ascendium Education Group.

The multi-year, multi-state initiative seeks to strengthen rural communities by creating opportunities for rural residents to live, learn, and earn in the places they call home.

They've already stopped by Community College - Pocono Campus and the Lehigh Carbon Community College, and will be finishing up the sweep of the Commonwealth at the Community College of Beaver County today and Westmoreland County Community College on Friday.

These townhalls are designed as dialogue sessions with community members, but researchers are also hitting the streets conducting interviews with local residents.

You can learn more about their work at https://ruraltalentlabs.org/.
