What does agriculture have to do with your classroom? More than you might think! 🌾

Educators sometimes assume agricultural subjects are best left within ag programs, but Extension educator Ashlyn Ussery wants to change that.

She's inviting teachers, administrators, and parents to the Agriculture Across All Curriculum Showcase on May 12 to see how agriculture connects to math, science, career & technology, and MORE. The event will include tours of the classroom, kitchen, and greenhouse at the Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center in Harrisburg, AR.

No registration required and free to attend!

We are excited to have Dr. Ana Morales-Ona Smith join the team at NERREC!

Ana Morales-Ona Smith, a new extension specialist and researcher with Crop, Soil, & Environmental Sciences (CSES) at the University of Arkansas, followed a winding path, crossing both decades and continents, to her current field of study in soil fertility.

Smith will be based at UofA Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center and hopes to adopt a “Farmer-centered, data-informed” approach.

“My goal is to develop and support programs that focus on site-specific nutrient management, helping producers improve nutrient efficiency while maintaining productivity and profitability,” she said.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Burcham and Scott Stiles for their recent, well deserved awards!

Dr. Burcham was honored at the Annual Arkansas Rice Meeting for his years of leadership and lasting contributions to the Arkansas Rice Industry. This recognition is a true testament to his incredible dedication, innovative thinking, and commitment to excellence.

Scott Stiles was named the Agri-Business Person of the year at the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Agri-Business Breakfast. This recognition is well deserved and we are grateful for Scott’s continued dedication to Arkansas’ agricultural community!
