The Arkansas Foundations of Reading exam has been updated, the new code is 190. There are 10 YouTube videos, one for each objective of the test to help test takers to understand and have the knowledge to be successful on the new exam. There are also slides that accompany each video. The video series was created by Julie Workman, Teacher Center Coordinator with Arch Ford Education Service Cooperative. CRESC hosted Novice Teacher Bootcamp June 24th at the ASU Cooper Alumni Center. Dr. Diann Gaithright provided training for 26 Year 1 and 2 Novice Teachers in Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching and TESS. CRESC provided resources such as professional texts as well as instructional materials to increase student engagement.

I spent the past 2 days with 8 Novice Teachers. One will enter a classroom for the first time in August, the others finished their first or second year during a pandemic- a time like no other. This was my first professional development session in person since before March of 2020. I was nervous and a little disappointed because we had only 8 participants. We were small in numbers but the impact of the 2 days was big- so much more than I expected. This group was engaged, participating and asking questions. Hearing one Novice Teacher say, “This was exactly what I needed, I can’t wait until August to be back in my room with my students” made it all worth it. I love my job!!!
