This week to dive into our Roots & Shoots project, Nature Club worked together to map out the people, animal, and environmental assets in our community. We also enjoyed a visit with K-9 Zeik of the Derry Township Police and a pine cone story and craft.

We had a beautiful sunny day for this week’s Nature Club. We were able to play at the stream and Gaga pit. We also read a story about weaving and made our own nature weaving craft. We continued our introduction to the Roots & Shoots program by looking at examples of other past projects and talking about what makes up a community.

🌻🎨 Van Gogh Day at Art Club!

Today we stepped into the colorful world of Vincent van Gogh! We read Van Gogh and the Sunflowers, then experimented with his famous swirling style by creating Starry Night–inspired paintings using Q-tips. 🌌

Next, we learned a little about flower arranging and created our own arrangements before using them as inspiration for still-life paintings with oil paints on canvas. 💐🖌️

A fun afternoon of flowers, texture, color, and lots of creative experimenting!

Week 1 of Fall Nature Club- Despite the storm, we were able to get outside for a little creek play and Gaga ball this afternoon. Back inside, we also made our painted rock and wood cookie tic tac toe board craft and began discussion about Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program and what it means to have compassion.

This week we kicked off our fall Minis classes with everyone’s favorite beardie, Spiky, and some lizard themed play.

Our first Art Club was a success! Miss Christine of Wunder Institute lead us through two projects today. The first was self portraits created in the style of the book “It’s Okay To Be Different.” Next, we learned about muralists Rafael and Candice Lopez through the story “Maybe Something Beautiful,” and our explorers worked in pairs to paint their own murals.
