Breckinridge County High School senior, Elizabeth Grimes, has been named a Regional Finalist for the 2026 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship.

Elizabeth was among 1,238 Semifinalists who were selected from over 107,000 initial applicants and is now one of just 250 students who have moved to the final selection phase, regional interviews. After these interviews are conducted in early February, 150 of the Regional Finalists will be designated as Coca-Cola Scholars-select and attend Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend in Atlanta in April, where they will be the guests of honor at the 38th annual Coca-Cola Scholars Banquet and participate in the Coca-Cola Scholars Leadership Development Institute facilitated by program alumni.

In honor of MLK Day Monday, BCHS AmeriCorps CORE students and NHS students wrote and presented our JROTC cadets and leaders as well as our School SRO with thank you treat bags, student letters and AmeriCorps cards.
The service that they give to our school and community does not go unnoticed. The pride and strength of service to others in our JROTC program is one to admire.

If you have any questions about what service looks like do not hesitate to reach out, I would love to answer any questions that you may have if you are interested.

The Kentucky College Coach program consists of AmeriCorps members who mentor high school students as they prepare for and succeed in college. These coaches are often the difference between a student stopping short or stepping forward into higher education.

Here’s what service looks like:

· Mentoring students on academics, financial aid, and career planning

· Guiding college applications and FAFSA completion

· Hosting college planning events for students and families

· Building confidence for first-generation and underrepresented students

Member benefits include:

· $1,810 monthly living allowance

This income is excluded from SNAP and housing!
· Up to $5,000 education award

· Professional training in networking, FAFSA, and career readiness

· Service term: January–July 2026; with the option to renew for four years.

Together, we can ensure more Kentucky students see themselves on the path to college and a bright future!

Extra Christmas tree just sitting around your house?? I could use them for the Senior Celebration Winter Formal...
If you have an extra or old Christmas tree at home that you are not using, I would love to borrow it. Just drop the tree off at the front office at BCHS and make sure that you leave your name so I can tag it to make sure that I return it, if you want it back of course.
