What an unforgettable weekend for HCISD Music!

This week, our mariachi and speech students had the incredible honor of representing Harlingen at the National Civic League’s All-America City Awards in Denver. They didn’t just perform—they shared our community’s story with authenticity, professionalism, and heart.

For many of our students, this was filled with firsts: their first flight, their first time seeing snow-capped mountains, and the opportunity to meet civic leaders from across the country. They experienced firsthand what it means to use their talents to serve something bigger than themselves.

One of the most memorable moments came after Saturday night’s cultural showcase. What started as a performance turned into an impromptu celebration, with our students playing side by side with Woodbury, Oregon as the crowd of communities from across the nation cheered for “¡Otra!” They even took La Bamba down the escalator into the hotel lobby, proving once again that music truly brings people together.

We couldn’t be prouder of the way our students represented HCISD and the City of Harlingen. Their talent, character, and joy made a lasting impression on everyone they met.

Enjoy a few highlights from an incredible weekend.

Let’s hear it, Texas, City of Harlingen is an winner! 🎉 By putting residents at the center of its growth, Harlingen is creating a stronger, more connected community. From expanding education-to-workforce opportunities to guiding future development through community-driven planning and neighborhood revitalization, Harlingen is investing in lasting opportunity for all.

Congratulations, Harlingen!

Words cannot express how EXCITED and PROUD we are for our students and directors of our Harlingen South Varsity Treble Choir! For the first time in school history, they have been named TMEA Invited Ensemble and have been selected to perform at the 2027 Texas Music Educators Association Convention!

This prestigious honor places the South Women’s Choir among the elite group of ensembles chosen through a highly competitive statewide selection process to perform at Texas’s premier music education event in February.

Congratulations students and directors - Willie Morales, Elora Sanchez and Josue Medellin!
