Life transitions often bring changes in friendships, and that isn’t always easy. It’s okay for friendships to grow, change, or even come to an end.

The healthiest friendships are built on respect, support, and the freedom to be yourself.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), positive peer relationships are associated with better mental health outcomes for young people.

Surround yourself with people who encourage you to grow, support your well-being, and help you become your best self.

Starting middle school can bring a mix of emotions—excitement, nervousness, uncertainty, and the pressure to fit in.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one of the best ways to support a young person’s mental health during this transition is by helping them feel connected to trusted adults and supportive peers.

As kids begin this new chapter, encourage them to:
✔Ask questions
✔Get involved in activities
✔Stay connected to supportive people
✔Give themselves time to adjust

Strong connections help build resilience, support positive mental health, and reduce the risk of substance use.
