We are proud to announce that 10 of our students had their artwork selected for the BAM Inspired Art Show! ❤️🩶

This is quite an accomplishment! With 250 submissions from 19 schools, only 60 pieces were selected for the exhibit, and 10 of those belong to our very own Highland students!

Students recently visited the More Than Human exhibit and were challenged to create their own artwork inspired by what they experienced. This project required a great deal of thought, imagination, and creativity, and our students certainly rose to the challenge!

Our selected artists will return next Thursday for a special reception and the opportunity to see their artwork on display.

👏 Congratulations to these talented students! We are so proud of their hard work and creativity. If you see these young artists, be sure to congratulate them on this outstanding achievement!

Mrs. Suzanne Wallace wanted to make sure we recognized Kyle as our next Rebel Shoutout!
Mrs. Wallace says Kyle is one of the biggest helpers around—he is always willing to lend a hand with anything that needs to be done. He even checks in with Mrs. Wallace each day to make sure she is doing okay and to see if she might be in need of a hug!
Kyle tries his best in everything he does and is always willing to help his classmates when they don't understand something. Mrs. Wallace says it best: Kyle is an amazing student and an even better human being.
We think that is definitely worthy of a
Rebel Shoutout! Way to go, Kyle!

The Highland Band had an incredible showing at the Dale Bumpers Invitational in Charleston, Arkansas, on Saturday, October 3!

The band earned 1st Place in their Class and brought home an impressive list of overall awards from the entire competition:

Mrs. Suzanne Wallace would like to give a Rebel Shoutout to Kimberly!
Mrs. Wallace says Kimberly is always respectful and kind and is such a joy to have in class each day. She sits in a group full of young men, holds her own, and even occasionally has to put them in check!
Kimberly is always willing to do whatever is asked of her and does it with a great attitude.

The weather is just too beautiful to stay inside, and some of Mrs. Parish’s English I students took full advantage of it yesterday!
Students are currently reading Of Mice and Men and decided to take their classroom outdoors for a little fresh air, sunshine, and a great read.

Sometimes a change of scenery makes a good book even better!

Candidates running to represent Arkansas’s First Congressional District were invited to Highland High School last week to participate in a town hall meeting with Mr. Jeremiah MacDonald’s senior civics students.
As part of their studies, students have been learning about the electoral process and the responsibilities that come with being an informed voter. Mr. MacDonald wanted to take those lessons beyond the classroom by giving students an opportunity to experience firsthand what it means to learn about candidates and the issues they represent before heading to the polls.
Two candidates accepted the invitation to participate: Dr. Terri Yarbrough Green and Dr. Steve Parsons. Each candidate was given an opportunity to speak to students about their platform, priorities, and reasons for seeking office. Following each presentation, students were able to ask questions and hear directly from the candidates.
For many of these seniors, voting in an election will soon become a very real responsibility. Experiences like this allow students to see the democratic process in action while developing skills that extend well beyond the classroom—asking thoughtful questions, listening to different perspectives, researching candidates and issues, and making informed decisions for themselves.
We appreciate both candidates for taking the time to visit HHS and speak with our students, and we are proud of Mr. MacDonald and his students for turning their civics lessons into a meaningful, real-world learning experience!

Recently members of the Highland Show Team competed at the North Central Arkansas District Fair that was held in Melbourne, Arkansas.

Penny Lehmann received Grand Champion Senior Nubian Doe, Grand Champion

Junior Nubian Doe, Overall Champion Dairy Doe, and 3rd Overall Champion Senior Showman

Mason Trivitt placed 3rd in class with his Hampshire Gilt and Reserve Champion Senior in the Forestry Contest

Rylee Baxley placed 4th in class with her Hampshire Gilt

Timber Trivitt placed 3rd in class with her Hampshire Gilt

Abby Despain placed 2nd in class with her Yorkshire Market Barrow

Riley Trivitt placed 7th in class with her Dark Cross Gilt

Walker Brink received Grand Champion Brangus Bull, 2nd Overall Supreme Bull, was Top 6 in Junior Beef Showmanship, placed 5th in the Junior Public Speaking Contest, and placed 3rd in the Livestock Skills Contest

Whitleigh Wood placed 5th in the Junior Livestock Skill Contest

Ally Phillips received Grand Champion Junior in the Livestock Skills Contest

The Highland Key Club presents a Breast Cancer Awareness Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, October 17, from 11:00 AM–5:00 PM!

Gather your friends, create a team, and join us for an afternoon of volleyball, fun, and giving back! Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the HHS Key Club and the UAMS Breast Care Center in Little Rock. 🎀
