This is not a political opinion post. It is a good story that shares my concerns about ageism and how it has been front and center in the news surrounding this election. As I am getting close to what is considered retirement age, I don't think I want to be told whether I can still work and contribute to society or told to just step back. I still want to be seen heard and valued for the contributions I have made and what I still might like to contribute to the world in the future.

Americans should celebrate — not resent — the fact that the potential re-election of either President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump could carve out new ground for age diversity in an aging country, writes Arick Wierson.

The most significant signal that change is coming to retirement did not come from the markets or a Nobel economist, but from Tennis GOAT Serena Williams. She calls out today’s outdated story of retirement and offers up a modern approach to how we live, work, and evolve across the life course.

I love this article by Joseph Coughlin of the MIT Age Lab about "The Great Reframing" in addition to "The Great Resignation". We are rethinking and looking at life and what it means through a new lens. Have had several conversations in the last 2 days about how it affects life in retirement, too!

The Great Resignation and the future of work is just one indicator of something larger happening in a post-pandemic society – we are undergoing a Great Reframing of life’s choices and behaviors redefining how we view work and everything else.

Interesting article by Joseph Coughlin of the MIT Age Lab about the affects of the pandemic on work for all generations and how it is and will change the workplace. Companies that have already adapted to a work-from-home model successfully are better positioned to thrive.

The pandemic experience and latent values, articulated primarily by Millennials, are reshaping the future of where and how work fits into our lives. Once critical of Millennial demands for flexibility, Gen X'ers & Boomers are discovering they like it too.

NEW YORK (AP) — Joan MacDonald’s health was in shambles at age 71. She was overweight and on numerous medications with high cholesterol, rising blood pressure and kidney trouble. Her daughter, a fitness coach, warned that she'd wind up an invalid if she didn't turn things around.

This article points out research that workers who openly oppose racism and sexism were still prejudiced against older workers. Ageism seems to be this underlying thing that isn't addressed. I know there's "youngism" as well. I hear more experienced workers complaining about the perceived lack of work ethic in youngers. What can we do to bridge the gap to help people see the value in each other as human beings and what we ALL bring to the table?

A chat with a researcher who found the younger people are, the more likely they hold ageist views of workers

It's more important than ever for an organization, whether for-profit or a non-profit, to know its values and not be shy in communicating how they live by them. This is a great article by Survey Monkey that explains how this directly affects brand loyalty and your bottom line, as well as how values drive engagement both with your employees and your customers.

What is your perception of "retirement"? Has our time with COVID made people think a little differently? A great article by Joseph Coughlin of the MIT Age Lab.
If you're looking at how you want to evolve through life, you might want to give it more thought and focus! I'm here to help!

Covid-19 is testing us all. Millennials, Gen X’ers, and younger Boomers are surprised by what they are learning from being home for an extended period – much like retirement – many of life’s activities are more difficult or impossible. Here are seven of those retirement surprises.

Are you aware of your EQ or emotional intelligence? It's the energy and emotions people feel whether you express them or not. And it can be reflected in what you say and how you treat others. Have you ever used or heard someone use these 5 phrases? They are each a sign of a low emotional intelligence. This is why.
