Dartmouth Uniformed Service Alumni - DUSA

Dartmouth Uniformed Service Alumni - DUSA Dartmouth's newest alumni group, serving military members and their families. If you're new, please share with us your branch, units, and dates of service.

If still serving, please update us on any milestones you achieve. DCUSA is a new Dartmouth Alumni interest group that aims to represent, serve, and honor all those who put on a uniform in the defense of their country. Vision:
The challenges of warfare are greater than ever. Marines that previously pulled triggers are instead finding themselves on the front lines of diplomatic relations. The action

s of Sergeants are now strategic. Technology and planning are now the centerpieces of the profession of arms. These modern developments require the best and brightest -- namely, Dartmouth graduates -- to command men and women into combat. Instead the ideal of service is lacking in our community, with less than 1% of students using their educations in the service of their country. DCUSA's goal is to change this, by promoting the ideals of service among students, supporting those who serve, and honoring the service of those who have.

As an update and reminder, the Winnie W. Huang ’92 Memorial Fund at Dartmouth College has been established by DUSA and Winnie’s family and close friends. Winnie originally established undergraduate and graduate funds to aid students in their pursuit of low-paid and unpaid internship opportunities. The fund has now been renamed in her memory, with the ultimate goal of raising $100,000 to fully endow the fund so that Dartmouth veterans can benefit in perpetuity, ultimately fulfilling Winnie’s ongoing dream of supporting students in pursuit of service.

Thank you to those who have donated to date, Winnie’s great legacy lives on thanks to each of you.

Dear DUSA Members and Supporters,

It is with tremendous pain and sadness that we report the recent passing of DUSA’s Immediate Past President, Winnie W. Huang ’92, Army ROTC. Words cannot describe the positive impact she has had on DUSA, the Dartmouth community, and all who knew her. She was an absolute force of nature who truly embodied the ideals of devotion to service, college, and country.

Winnie is remembered as an incredible leader, mentor, and friend, whose selflessness and giving spirit cannot be matched. Though Winnie would never take credit for her tireless efforts, we are quick to recognize that her daily, unmatched work ethic and commitment to DUSA ensured unwavering support to all of our veterans and supporters, and it is as a direct result of her work that DUSA is recognized as the 2016-2017 Group of the Year.

Winnie was an early champion for DUSA since its inception in 2013, first serving as the chair of the James Wright Award for Distinguished Service and then leading our organization to great heights as the Immediate Past President, serving until March of 2018. She was deeply cherished and revered by DUSA and the Dartmouth family, and meeting her often served as an inflection point. She was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews, and gave her heart to her countless mentees scattered across the globe. There is only one Winnie, and her loss will certainly be felt from Los Angeles, CA all the way to the gentle green of Hanover, NH.

A loyal daughter of Dartmouth, Winnie’s undying faith was lived out daily; the granite of New Hampshire remains with her. Our deepest sympathies, condolences, and prayers are with the Huang family and all of Winnie’s friends during this difficult time.

Information regarding memorial services is forthcoming.

As Winnie was the champion of personalized correspondence, Winnie's family is hoping to collect stories, memories, and photos of her together with friends and family (include captions, dates, and names please if you can). Please share your stories by sending them to:

[email protected]

The Student Veterans Association will be hosting an event in Winnie's memory on Wednesday, 2 May in Hanover, NH and have invited all in the area to join.

Time: 5:30pm, Thursday, 2 May 2018
Salt Hill Pub, 7 Lebanon St, Hanover, NH 03755

One of the initiatives that Winnie started during her tenure as DUSA President was supporting undergraduate and graduate students to pursue low-paid and unpaid internships in public service. In her honor and to keep her name in fierce memory, DUSA resolves to create the Winnie Huang ’92 Memorial Fund to further support students’ pursuit of leadership and service. We resolve to endow this fund and bestow it in her name.
