Hello SW Music Alumni,
This week, about 1,600 envelopes have left South Western High School and are heading to many of your mailboxes. The mailing list has been assembled from a variety of places and we know that some of the addresses will no longer be accurate. We apologize for any mail errors and we will be updating our list with any feedback we receive. Since we know some letters may not make it into your hands, we wanted to share this information in a variety of places.
Our South Western Music Legacy Club board has been hard at work over the last year with two major goals. First, we are in the process of officialy becoming a non-profit entity seprate from the South Western Music Boosters. While that process is not yet complete and we are currently operating as a branch of the Music Booster program, we are excited to have received School-Affilitated Organization status at a recend SWSD Board of Directors Meeting. Secondly, we have been using the generous donations from last year's fundraising appeal to carry out our mission of supporting and enriching K-12 music education at South Western School District.
Recently, we hosted a Music in Our Schools Month concert where our combined ensembles (including many of our K-12 music teachers) debuted "Music Is My Freedom", a beautiful piece comissioned by the legacy club and composed by SW Alum Bryce Fuhrman. Last year, the Legacy Club held a poetry contest at EHMMS and enjoyed many student submissions in response to the prompt "What Music Means To Me." The poem submitted by winner Savannah Rider provided the inspiration for the composition and her lyrics were sung by the choir accomanied by the band and string ensembles.
We are gearing up for our next exciting event. This summer, we will host a 3-day summer camp for developing musicians in June. This camp will feature a variety of opportunites, including workshops from impressive string, band, and vocal guest instructors and a perfomance for family and friends to conclude the camp. Information about the camp can be found on the Legacy Club website. https://swmusiclegacyclub.com/
We have BIG ideas for future opportunites as we ensure that all SWSD students have opportunites to experience in grow in the joy that is music. These ideas can not become a reality without YOUR help. We will need the support of the Mustang community, including alumni, past boosters/parents, and other generous donors.
Our 2025 campaign is now live! We invite you to check out the donor level options in the pictures provided with this post and invite you to "Join the Club" with a donation.
