Meet the new president 👋
Kelly Wan is a PhD student studying the Wnt signaling pathway, a process cells use to communicate and repair themselves. When it goes wrong, it's behind nearly all colorectal cancers, and Kelly's research is focused on finding new ways to treat it.
She grew up in a small town in China, where she saw firsthand how much access shapes a person's path. That's part of why she wanted mentors of her own, and why she now wants to be that person for others.
This year she's president of the Graduate Student Council at the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, working to make sure grad student concerns, like housing, mental health, and international student support, actually get heard.
When she's not in lab, you'll probably find her paddleboarding or kayaking at the Ledyard Canoe Club on the Connecticut River.
