For more than 10 years, earning her high school diploma was something Mishon Faulkner knew she wanted to accomplish.

After leaving high school during her senior year, she attended a private high school, only to learn later that the diploma wasn’t accepted by many employers and colleges. She knew she needed a credential that would open more doors.

When Mishon enrolled in AACC’s GED program in early April 2026, she was ready. By late May, she had passed all her GED exams.

Like many GED students, Mishon was most worried about the math exam. "I thought math would hold me back," she said. "But the extra studying paid off.“

As the mom of a two-year-old, Mishon has balanced family life with working as a phlebotomist and medical assistant. Earning her diploma felt like a major accomplishment - but she didn’t stop there. She’s already taking general education courses at Capella University and plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration with the goal of moving into a leadership role. She’s seen firsthand some of the field’s challenges and hopes to help create positive change.

For Mishon, earning her diploma wasn’t the finish line—it was the start of the next chapter.

Don’t get locked out! DEADLINE JUNE 16

AACC is adding multifactor authentication (MFA) to protect your student account. Take a few minutes now to check your phone number and set up your MFA methods, so you can access your accounts without interruption.

Get instructions at aacc.edu/resources/technology/multifactor-authentication. Contact the Technical Service Desk at 410-777-4357 (HELP) if you need support. Interpretation services are available if you need language support.

AACC now uses multifactor authentication (MFA) to help keep your account secure. MFA is a quick extra step, like a text message, phone call or app notification, that helps confirm it’s really you signing in. It’s similar to the type of security your bank and social apps may use.
