"Those who won our independence believed liberty to be the secret of happiness." As we reflect on the words of Louis Brandeis, make the most of each day use the freedom you have to bring joy to others.

It's a little later than normal this week, but Steve Irwin hit the nail on the head when he said, "Education is all about being excited about something."

As we start a new school year, let's put into the practice the habits to become the best version of ourselves. In the Monday Thought of the Week, Max Lucado reminds us, "The past does not have to be your prison. You have a choice in your destiny. You have a say in your life. You have a choice in the path you take."

Each Monday we plan on sharing a motivational quote that either encourages, inspires, or has a connection to the time of year. The next two weeks will be focused on freedom and the 4th of July! Starting in August, additional content will be consistently added on other days. Have an amazing week!

The Hannibal's first annual school bus safety competition was a huge success! Twenty participants completed the competition which consisted of a written test, a defective bus inspection, and ten narrow obstacles that tested driver awareness of their bus using only their mirrors. Contestants had tons of fun, great food, and challenging obstacles that grew their skills.
Special thanks to Susan Johnson for being willing to compete with no prior experience driving a school bus (If you are wondering, yes, it is legal for her to do this on a closed course on private property.). It made the Transportation Family's day to have Susan experience a little of what they do on a daily basis!
Also, a huge shout out to Stacey Graves, Meghan Church-Karr, Dianna McLeod, Mary Leonard Shirley, Holly Zuck, Joe Campbell, Amber Speer, and Team Speer for coming out and judging events. Furthermore, thanks to our friends from Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation -MAPT for your support in planning and executing our first Region 2- Safety Competition! It would not have been possible without Lloyd Givens, Joe Seyfarth, Lewis Bode, Jim Brown, Jennifer Fowler, Keith Henry, Kelly Henry, and Shirley Francis! If there was anyone that we left out, thanks to you too!
If you didn't take the opportunity to join us this year, have a blast seizing the day while focusing on student safety with us next year!
