This morning in chapel, Seth Gruber, President and CEO of White Rose Resistance, challenged students to think critically about abortion, human dignity, and the cultural ideas shaping our society. Drawing from history, theology, and cultural analysis, he argued that many of the moral challenges facing our culture stem from a rejection of the value of human life and the biblical understanding of sacrifice.

Throughout his message, Gruber contrasted the abortion movement's slogan, “my body, my choice,” with Christ’s words at the Last Supper, emphasizing the difference between self-preservation and self-sacrifice. One of the most memorable statements from the chapel was, “Abortion says you must die so I can live, but Christ said, ‘No, I must die so you can live.’” He challenged students to consider how the value of human life is reflected in both personal convictions and public policy.

As we reflect on today’s message, may we continue to pursue truth with conviction, engage culture thoughtfully, and remember the value and dignity of every human life.

This morning in chapel, Dr. Eric Turner, HLGU Arts and Humanities Division Chair and Professor of New Testament and Greek, preached from Genesis 3:1-24 on the question, “Who Is God?” Through the account of humanity’s fall, he highlighted four truths about God’s character: He is wise, relational, merciful, and sacrificial.

Dr. Turner reminded us that the fall was not a choice between the worst thing and the best thing. God had already given Adam and Eve everything that was good, yet they chose not to trust His wisdom. As he said, “The question is not whether we will seek wisdom, but whether we will seek God’s wisdom.” To pursue God is to pursue true wisdom because God does not simply possess wisdom. He is wisdom.

He also emphasized God’s relational nature. Even after Adam and Eve sinned and hid from God, the Lord came looking for them. One of the most memorable statements of the message was, “Sin will always drive you into hiding, but the good news is God always comes looking for you.” What a comfort to know that God pursues us even when we run from Him.

Dr. Turner went on to show that while God’s response to sin includes judgment, judgment does not have to have the last word because God is merciful. He also pointed to God’s provision of clothing for Adam and Eve as a picture of His sacrificial love, reminding us that the only thing that can truly cover our shame is the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.

As we reflect on today’s message, may we trust God’s wisdom, rest in His mercy, and rejoice in the sacrificial love displayed through Christ. The God who pursued Adam and Eve is the same God who continues to pursue us today.
