Hello! My name is Ms. Carlson-Hughes and I am so excited to be part of the Hankinson community as your agriculture teacher and FFA advisor! Before school starts, I wanted to share a little bit about myself so you can get to know me!

I am originally from east central Minnesota where I grew up involved in both FFA and 4-H. Growing up in 4-H, I showed and raised rabbits, cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, and dogs! Now, I own a small herd of commercial Black Angus cattle that reside at my grandparents' farm. Agriculture has always been a big part of my life, and it is where my love of livestock and learning began.

I attended North Dakota State University, earning my degree in Agricultural Education with minors in Animal Science and Extension Education. While there, I spent some time learning about Livestock Evaluation and judging. After graduating, I began my career at Hope-Page High School and am thrilled to be starting at Hankinson this year!

My favorite thing about teaching agriculture is how hands-on the subject is! I enjoy coming up with ways to make class even better for students through activities! I also believe that my job is more than just teaching students where their food comes from, it is about helping students develop the skills they need to be successful in their careers, community, and lives. I want students to leave my classroom with practical skills that will serve them for a lifetime.

When I'm not at work, I love to travel, read, and craft! So far, I have been to 9 countries, 7 National Parks, and 22 states! I also have a cat, Begonia, and when I get the chance to visit my family, I usually find my way to the barn!

This year, I am teaching Exploring Agriculture 7 and 8, Introduction to Agriculture, Foundations of Agriculture, Botany Horticulture, Agricultural Mechanics Technology, and Agricultural Products and Processing! I can't wait to meet students and parents and become a part of the community!

Be sure to stop by for the Open House at the Innovation Academy (Ag Building) on August 24th from 5-7! I would love to meet you plus the Hankinson FFA Alumni and Supporters will be serving a meal!
