This past weekend one of our students made history becoming one of the first Berkeley County junior high musicians to pull off a musical “hat trick.” Yesterday, Hanahan Middle student, Thomas McAlister learned he was accepted to all 3 South Carolina All-State Instrumental Ensembles. These groups highlight the top musicians from across the state, and we are grateful to have one of our very own as a member. Thomas was accepted to the SCBDA All-State Junior Honor Band, the SCMEA All-State Junior Orchestra, and placed 1st chair lead drum set in the Inaugural SCBDA Junior All-State Jazz Band. In soccer, a “hat trick” is when a player scores 3 goals in a single game. This year, Thomas did just that being 3 for 3 in earning placement in all 3 elite musical ensembles. Not only did he make history for the Hanahan community, but he did for the district and the state.
As a member of the Bands of Hanahan Middle, Thomas McAlister is an accomplished musician with a 3-year resume that boasts of several achievements. He has been a 3-year member of the BCSD All-County Honor Band, a 2-year member of BCSD All-County Jazz Band, the SCBDA Region 5 Honor Band, a member of the award winning Hanahan Marching Pride, and earned several superior ratings at SCBDA Solo and Ensemble events. Additionally, he serves as co-section percussion leader for the Bands of Hanahan Middle program. Thomas’s achievements are a reflection of his hard work, his determination, and his commitment to excellence. Please join us in celebrating this inspiring student musician!
