Have you ever told a child exactly what to do, watched them nod their head like they understood every word… and two minutes later heard:

“Wait… what am I supposed to do?” 😩😂

And somewhere inside you’re thinking, “I JUST told you!”

I get it. ❤️ Repeating yourself over and over can be exhausting. Whether you’re a parent, homeschool parent, teacher, caregiver, or educator trying to meet the needs of several children at once, there are going to be moments when you get frustrated. Give yourself some grace. You’re learning too.

Here’s something I want to encourage you to try: Sometimes a child really DID hear us. They may simply benefit from having something they can go back to and look at again.

Maybe it’s a picture. A little checklist. A sticky note. Written directions. A few simple steps. Or maybe they need an opportunity to read it themselves or write it in their own words. ✏️

Needing that extra support doesn’t automatically mean they weren’t listening. It doesn’t mean you did a poor job explaining it. And it certainly doesn’t mean they aren’t capable.

Sometimes we just need another tool. ❤️

And that’s the kind of place I want The Fun Learning Zone® to be.

A place where you don’t have to pretend you have it all figured out.

Come with your questions.
Come after the hard days.
Come when what you tried yesterday isn’t working today.
Come when you simply need another idea.

We’ll keep learning together.

So before you get discouraged, try another way. Give them grace. Give yourself grace. And keep learning the child in front of you.

PART 4 | LEARN THE CHILD IN FRONT OF YOU

Have you ever gotten to the point where you’ve said, “Please sit down,” “Stop touching that,” or “Can you just pay attention?” more times than you can count? ❤️

I get it.

Sometimes you’re tired.
Sometimes you’re frustrated.
Sometimes you’re worried that your child isn’t learning.

Sometimes you’re a teacher trying to manage a whole room and still make sure every child gets what they need.

And sometimes you’re simply wondering, “Why is this so hard today?”

But I want to encourage you with something.

Sometimes the movement isn’t the problem.

Sometimes that child who wants to touch it, move it, build it, sort it, or do it may be showing you another way they connect with what they’re learning.

That doesn’t mean every movement should be ignored or that structure doesn’t matter.

It simply means we can pause long enough to ask:

“Can I use some of this movement to help the lesson make sense?”

Maybe math needs blocks.

Maybe spelling needs letter tiles.

Maybe a story needs to be acted out.

Maybe they need to stand, move, build, sort, or physically try something before it really clicks.

And if you’ve been frustrated, please don’t let this make you feel guilty.

You’re learning too.

The beautiful thing is that we can always adjust, try another way, and keep growing right alongside the children we’re teaching.

You do not have to have it all together to belong here.

Come frustrated.
Come tired.
Come with questions.
Come needing another idea.

That’s exactly what The Fun Learning Zone is here for.

We’re going to keep learning the child in front of us, one little breakthrough at a time.

Have you ever said something to a child two, three, four times and thought, “I know you heard me!” 😩😂

Whether you’re parenting a toddler, teaching preschool or Pre-K, homeschooling, working with kindergarteners, or teaching in a classroom… I get it. Repeating yourself over and over can be frustrating.

But sometimes the issue isn’t that the child isn’t listening.

Sometimes they may need to hear the information differently.

They may need you to talk it through with them.
Let them repeat it back.
Turn it into a conversation.
Use a rhyme, a song, or a little repetition.
Let them ask questions and explain it in their own words.

Sometimes all that talking we want them to stop doing is actually giving us a clue about how they’re processing what they’re learning. 👂

And I want to encourage you too, if you’ve been frustrated, that does not mean you’re doing a bad job. Sometimes we just need another approach.

That’s what I want to help you with here at The Fun Learning Zone, practical ways to better understand the child in front of you so you can teach with more confidence and make learning feel a little easier for both of you.

Keep observing. Keep adjusting. Keep encouraging.

Part 3: What if your child needs to HEAR it before it clicks?

Have you ever explained something to your child over and over and OVER again, and they’re still looking at you like they have no idea what you’re talking about? 😂 Now you’re frustrated, they’re frustrated, and you’re wondering what in the world you’re doing wrong!

Listen, I get it!

But what if your child is just as frustrated because they’re genuinely trying to understand, and the way we’re teaching it just isn’t connecting?

Sometimes they don’t need another explanation. They need us to SHOW them!

And that doesn’t mean you’re not capable of teaching them or that they’re incapable of learning. Sometimes we just need another approach.

I’m excited to share more of these little teaching nuggets, fun demonstrations, and practical strategies here at The Fun Learning Zone. And this isn’t just for homeschoolers! Whether you’re expecting, caring for an infant, raising a toddler, or teaching school-aged children, there’s so much we can learn about how children respond, engage, and develop from the very beginning.

I want you to feel confident teaching the child in front of you, even on the frustrating days!

PART 2 | LEARN THE CHILD IN FRONT OF YOU 👀

Sometimes a child doesn’t need another explanation. They simply need another way to SEE what we’re trying to teach them.

As parents and educators, learning to recognize these moments can make a meaningful difference in how we approach teaching.

A simple visual, demonstration, picture, or example may be exactly what helps a difficult concept finally make sense.

Remember, effective teaching isn’t about putting children into learning-style boxes. It’s about understanding their needs and being willing to adjust our approach.

Don’t label the child. Learn the child. ❤️

Sometimes we think the answer is more pressure, more repetition, or trying harder.

But sometimes what a child really needs is for us to slow down, pay attention, and understand what helps learning click for them.

That doesn’t mean lowering expectations. It means becoming more intentional about how we reach the child in front of us.

Keep observing. Keep adjusting. Keep encouraging.

You may be closer to the breakthrough than you think. 📚🍎✏️

PART 1: LEARN THE CHILD IN FRONT OF YOU 📚🍎✏️

I really want to encourage a parent or educator today.

It is so easy to look at what another child is doing and start questioning the child in front of you.

Should they be reading by now?
Why did that child pick this up so quickly?
Why do I have to explain this again?
Am I doing enough?

Most of the time, those questions come from a good place. We care. We want our children to thrive. We want to know that they’re learning, growing, and making progress.

But comparison can make us miss something important:

Children do not all learn the same way, respond the same way, or develop on the exact same timeline.

Sometimes they need more time.

Sometimes they need more repetition.

And sometimes they simply need us to present the information differently.

They may need to see it.

They may need to hear it.

They may need to touch it, move it, build it, or do it.

They may need to read it or write it.

And what helps them today may even change depending on what they’re learning.

So instead of immediately thinking, “My child just doesn’t get it,” I want us to start asking a different question:

“What does the child in front of me need for this to make sense?”

That one question can change so much.

And parent, give yourself some grace too.

You do not have to know everything. You do not have to get everything right the first time. Part of becoming a confident educator is learning to observe, adjust, try again, and really get to know the child you’re teaching.

Different timing does not mean less potential.

So keep showing up. Keep encouraging. Keep paying attention to those little moments when something finally clicks.

You’re learning your child while they’re learning too, and you can do this. ❤️

Sometimes you just need a little encouragement, a fresh perspective, and another way to approach what may not be working.

From Pre-K graduation… to high school honors graduate. ❤️

What a journey it has been.

These two pictures represent so much more than school milestones to me. They represent perseverance, growth, sacrifice, faith, long nights, hard seasons, prayers, learning, laughter, tears, and the beauty of never giving up.

As a mother and homeschool educator, this moment is incredibly special because it reminds me that children truly can thrive when they are loved, supported, encouraged, and poured into consistently.

Watching my son graduate with honors after 12 years of homeschooling is a testimony that learning at home can be powerful, meaningful, and successful. ❤️

No journey is perfect.
No family story looks exactly the same.
But with support, patience, guidance, and dedication, beautiful things can happen.

I’m beyond proud of my son and incredibly thankful for everything this journey has taught both of us.

Parents… never underestimate the impact you can have on your child’s life.
