Some conversations donβt end when the event is overβthey stay with you, challenge you, and remind you of the power of community. πβοΈ
βGrief, Loss & Community: A Journey Towards Joyβ was more than an event. It was a space for honesty, vulnerability, healing, reflection, and connection. Together, we were reminded that grief can look different for everyone, that healing does not happen on a set timeline, and that finding joy again does not mean forgetting the people or experiences that have shaped us.
We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Sybrina Fulton and Ms. Linda Wilson for sharing their personal journeys with our Hampton University community. Through their courage, wisdom, and transparency, they showed us what it can look like to carry loss while continuing to move forward with purpose, love, and hope.
One of the most powerful reminders from this evening was that community matters. We do not always have to navigate our hardest moments alone. Sometimes healing begins with having a safe space to speak, to listen, to be understood, and simply to know that someone else is walking beside you.
Thank you to every student, faculty member, staff member, guest, and community partner who showed up and helped create that space. Your presence, participation, and willingness to engage in such an important conversation made this evening meaningful.
A special thank you to the Hampton University Student Counseling Center, The Trayvon Martin Foundation, Fund II Foundation, and everyone who helped bring this experience to our campus.
May we continue creating spaces at Hampton where grief can be acknowledged, healing can be supported, community can be strengthened, and joy can still be found. πβοΈ
