Camp Tuscaloosa Continues to Invest in the Camper Experience
At Camp Tuscaloosa, we take great pride in continually reinvesting in our camp property and improving the experience for our campers and families.
Each year, we continue to invest in new improvements, enhancements, and additions that elevate the camper experience and improve our property. This year represents our most extensive renovation effort completed at one time, with all of these projects taking place behind-the-scenes to prepare our camp for an even better experience for our campers and families.
Since September, we have completed extensive renovations and upgrades to our facilities, grounds, and operations. Even more exciting improvements are planned after the camp season ends, and we look forward to sharing those with our camp community when they’re complete.
Here’s a look at some of the behind-the-scenes projects that helped make this summer even better:
1. Complete exterior transformation of our main building featuring high-quality new siding, new stonework replacing the previous brick exterior, and new soffits, gutters, and downspouts, creating a fresh new camp look while enhancing durability and long-term performance.
2. Installation of a brand-new, upgraded roofing system, including replacement of underlying materials where needed and upgraded skylights to improve weather protection, reliability, and long-term performance.
3. New energy-efficient windows with new screens, additional classroom windows for increased natural light and improved visibility of the camp grounds, and upgraded front and rear entry doors featuring smart locking systems for enhanced security and remote access.
4. Construction of a new accessible camp office, creating a welcoming space where camp leadership can be more directly available on-site during office hours while providing families and visitors with a more convenient point of contact.
5. Installation of a durable, high-performance epoxy pavilion floor, providing a beautiful finish that’s built to withstand years of camp use.
6. Removal of dying trees throughout the property and installation of all-new landscaping to improve safety, enhance the appearance of our grounds, and create a more welcoming environment for campers and families.
7. Brand-new plumbing in all three bathrooms, along with complete renovations of two of the three bathrooms.
8. Installation of a new, higher-quality, durable ceiling in our downstairs classroom, designed for long-lasting performance and an improved camper environment.
9. A completely transformed Camp Tuscaloosa entrance featuring a larger, highly visible new sign with solar lighting, extensive upgraded landscaping, and improved road visibility through tree clearing, creating a more welcoming arrival experience and making it easier for families to find our property.
10. Installation of a new phone system providing families with direct access to the Camp Director through the camp’s main phone line, along with a transition to a wireless fire alarm communication system and upgraded credit card processing system for improved safety, reliability, and convenience.
11. Replacement of our mini golf greens with a thicker, higher-grade, more durable surface designed to withstand years of camp use while providing a better playing experience.
12. Brand-new batting cage featuring a reinforced, more durable frame and the addition of synthetic turf, creating a safer, more comfortable, and lower-maintenance space for campers.
13. Installation of upgraded paddle tennis fencing with a durable protective coating, providing enhanced longevity, weather resistance, and an improved appearance.
14. New retaining walls around the swimming pool and under-deck storage area, featuring bluestone caps, upgraded durable shelving for campers’ belongings, and decorative stone landscaping that helps keep the grounds cleaner and easier to maintain.
15. A completely upgraded building entrance experience featuring an expanded front entrance, new concrete and bluestone steps, front entry railing, reconstructed and expanded sidewalks, and wider entry steps at all entrances to enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of the property.
16. Installation of all-new, higher-efficiency heating and air conditioning systems, along with brand-new ductwork and smart remote access controls, including the relocation of one unit to improve safety and create a clearer, more accessible sidewalk pathway.
17. Enhanced building appearance, safety, and security by relocating and better integrating exterior wiring, piping, electrical, and mechanical equipment, creating a cleaner, more streamlined exterior, improving protection of important systems, enhancing accessibility around the building, and removing an unused, nonfunctional chimney.
18. Installation of new soffit and flood lighting throughout the property, featuring smart controls for improved security, visibility, and convenience, along with dusk-to-dawn lighting along the front walkway and entrance.
19. New outdoor security camera system with expanded coverage and enhanced capabilities, providing improved monitoring and security throughout the property.
20. Website enhancements to improve the online experience for current and prospective camp families.
21. Expanded online registration options, including the ability for families to receive a complimentary camp T-shirt with early registration and conveniently purchase additional T-shirts and snack packages during enrollment.
22. New playground equipment for our field playground, creating additional opportunities for active play and camper enjoyment.
23. Fresh paint throughout the entire interior of the building, providing a refreshed, updated, and welcoming environment.
24. New indoor fans, upgraded lighting, and a new refrigerator supporting the camp snack shop and staff needs, improving comfort, efficiency, and daily camp operations.
25. Enhanced water treatment system with additional filtration capacity to improve water quality, reduce mineral-related issues, and protect the camp’s plumbing and equipment.
26. Installation of a brand-new, high-efficiency tankless water heater designed to provide consistent, reliable water temperatures for campers and daily camp operations.
27. Refreshed wading pool with a new durable pool finish, creating a smoother, more comfortable surface for younger campers while enhancing the appearance and overall enjoyment of the area.
28. Expanded and enhanced irrigation systems throughout the property, including new automatic landscaping irrigation around the building and extended sprinkler coverage to support the newly upgraded entry landscaping.
29. Addition of a new elevated, mobile lifeguard chair at our main pool, providing an enhanced vantage point and added flexibility for lifeguard supervision while continuing to support a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for campers.
