What a day! We had a blast at this year's Zemurray Youth Fishing Rodeo!
We cleaned fish, handed out stickers, met a ton of great people, raffled off lures, and got to celebrate these kids and their catches. Seeing their excitement and smiles made every bit of preparation worth it.
Huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the First Cast Fishing booth, grabbed a business card, talked fishing, or simply said hello.
Special thanks to the Tangipahoa Parish Government, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, Tiara, Mr. Chris, and all the other organizers and sponsors for putting together an amazing event for all these kids and families, and for letting us be a part of it! Memories were made and we can't wait for next year!

Looking for something fun to do with your kids? We are just 10 days away from the Youth Fishing Rodeo at Zemurray Park in Hammond!

This family-friendly event is for youth ages 5-15. Check in is from 7:30 - 8:45 a.m., and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. This is a FREE event; however, registration is required to win a prize.

Catfish spawn and run through Manchac this time of year, every year — one of the many angling blessings we have down here in Southeast Louisiana 🎣
Brought my friend Tee out to get her on her first catfish, and we ended up filling the cooler before 11am. Fresh groceries for everybody aboard and some of the best fish frying around.
While I don’t offer boat trips (yet 👀), the skills you’ll learn with First Cast Fishing are the building blocks that can get you to this level. Whether you or your child want to get into fishing for sport, as a hobby, or to put food on the table, I can teach you what you need to know.

This isn't luck, it's understanding.
Jonah came into lesson 2 wanting to target bass, and caught his very first one on his second cast. He ended up landing 3 total, finishing up with a 6lb absolute UNIT.
We didn’t just get lucky — we broke it down:
• Sun + clear water → natural colors
• Cold snap → slow fishing
• Tried multiple baits… then locked into what worked
• Green pumpkin / red flake Texas rig = money
He learned how to:
• Fish the banks and lily pads
• Cast into, and from tight spots
• Slow down and fish patiently with purpose
• Choose the right colors based on conditions
• How to set up & fish a Texas rig.
His mom, Katie, got to watch him land that 6 lb hog, a moment he (and honestly I) will never forget.
He set out with a goal and he accomplished it.
