🎂 Happy 98th Heavenly Birthday, Billie Ruth Wilson! 🎂

The Ida Bell Foundation proudly recognizes and celebrates the life and legacy of Billie Ruth Wilson, whose birthday was August 13. Born on August 13, 1928, she would have celebrated her 98th birthday this year.

Billie Ruth Wilson was an extraordinary woman, a self-made Black entrepreneur, a mentor, and a devoted pillar of her community. For more than three decades, she worked as an independent contractor for the Yellow Pages, creating employment opportunities and teaching generations of individuals the importance of responsibility, discipline, and honest work.

Her entrepreneurial spirit extended far beyond one business. She restored furniture, refurbished household items, transformed overlooked pieces into valuable treasures, and owned and managed her own thrift store. Her life demonstrated that hard work, creativity, resourcefulness, and determination can turn an idea into an opportunity.

Her remarkable legacy is the reason the Billie Ruth Young Entrepreneurs Program exists today.

Created in her loving memory, this program serves children ages 7–12 and introduces them to the foundations of entrepreneurship, leadership, professionalism, accountability, food safety, food sanitation, and business awareness. Through structured instruction and hands-on learning experiences, our young entrepreneurs develop confidence, character, a strong work ethic, and valuable skills that can prepare them for a successful future.

In honor of Billie Ruth Wilson’s 98th heavenly birthday, we invite our families, friends, community partners, and supporters to donate to the Ida Bell Foundation and help us continue empowering the next generation of young entrepreneurs.

Your donation will help provide our children with educational materials, supervised learning experiences, mentorship, business development opportunities, and the resources they need to dream boldly and build confidently.

Although Billie Ruth Wilson is no longer with us physically, her passion for education, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment continues to live through every child we serve.

The Ida Bell Foundation is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Part-Time Child Care Assistant to provide quality care in our child care program.

This child care service is provided exclusively for students enrolled at Gifted Hands Academy, helping student parents pursue their educational goals while ensuring their children are cared for in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment.

Position Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor children to ensure their safety and well-being at all times

• Create a warm, positive, and engaging environment for children

• Assist with age-appropriate educational and recreational activities

• Support children’s social, emotional, and developmental growth

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe child care environment

• Communicate professionally with parents, staff, and academy personnel

• Follow all child care policies, procedures, and safety guidelines

• Assist with snacks, playtime, and daily activities as needed

Qualifications

✔ Previous child care experience is required

✔ Must have a genuine passion for working with children

✔ Strong communication and interpersonal skills

✔ Dependable, patient, and professional demeanor

✔ Ability to work independently and as part of a team

✔ Ability to provide a safe, nurturing, and positive environment for children

Employment Requirements

✔ Must successfully pass a criminal background check

✔ Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening

✔ Background check and drug screening are mandatory conditions of employment
