A community of kindness starts with the students themselves!

Mrs. Grushkin’s Elementary students worked together to create their own classroom rules, giving them a voice in the kind of classroom community they want to build together. 🍎❤️

Before the students arrived, our teachers spent countless hours preparing their classrooms for a new school year. In Montessori, the environment itself is an important part of the learning experience, with each space thoughtfully arranged to encourage independence, exploration, and meaningful work.

Now these classrooms are officially filled with busy hands and curious minds again, just as they should be! 🍎

🍎 Helping Your Child Prepare for the New School Year

Whether your child is starting school for the very first time or returning to the classroom, a little preparation can help make the transition smoother.

Here are a few simple ways to get ready:

🍎Talk positively about school. Share what they’ll do, who they’ll see, and all the exciting things they’ll get to learn and explore.

🍎Start easing back into your school routine. Gradually adjust bedtimes, wake-up times, and morning routines before the first day.

🍎Practice independence. Encourage your child to put on their own shoes, carry their backpack, wash their hands, and help clean up after themselves. These small skills build confidence.

🍎Acknowledge their feelings. It’s okay if your child feels excited, nervous, or a little unsure. Let them know those feelings are normal and remind them that their teachers will be there to help.

🍎Keep goodbyes short and confident. Children often take their cues from us. A warm hug, a reassuring smile, and a consistent goodbye routine help build trust and confidence.

We can’t wait to welcome our new and returning students for another wonderful year at Montessori Children’s Schoolhouse! ❤️

Meet the MCS Team: Ms. Nicole 😀

This year, we're excited to welcome Ms. Nicole into a new role as our lead Secondary Program Teacher! After 30 years as an employee at MCS, including the last 20 years in our Toddler classroom, Ms. Nicole is beginning an exciting new chapter.

🍎 Name:
Ms. Nicole Fara

📚 New Role at MCS:
Secondary Program Lead Teacher

💛 How many years have you been part of the MCS family?
I just finished my 30th year with MCS as an employee, and I'm lucky enough to say I also spent three years here as an Early Childhood and Kindergarten student!

🌱 What has kept you at MCS all these years?
I love what MCS offers our students, allowing each one to grow and learn at their own pace.

✨ What are you most looking forward to about teaching in the Secondary Program?
Honestly, I'm looking forward to seeing what the students are able to teach me. Learning is fun when it is reciprocal.

❤️ What is one thing you'll miss most about the Toddler classroom?
The tender, innocent moments as the children come to realize they are capable individuals...and the hugs!

🏈 What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
Playing with my dogs, attending college football games, and taking long rides on the back of a motorcycle.

🎓 What is one thing you hope your middle school students take away from their time in your classroom?
Learning should always be fun, even as the work gets harder.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Nicole on this exciting new role. We are grateful for the care and dedication she has shared with our youngest learners over the years, and we can't wait to see the impact she'll make with our middle school students! 🍎

🏛️ Celebrating 100 Years of Our Historic Building!

This year, we’re celebrating the 100th anniversary of the beautiful building that Montessori Children’s Schoolhouse proudly calls home.

Originally built for the Northern States Life Insurance Company, the building’s official dedication took place on July 31, 1926. Its stunning architecture and timeless craftsmanship have stood the test of time.

Since 1984, these historic halls have been home to Montessori Children’s Schoolhouse, where generations of children have learned, grown, and discovered the joy of learning.

Here’s to celebrating a century of history—and many more years to come! 🍎
