SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This position will be responsible for assisting CHS students with their college and career search as well as organizing college, vocational, military, and career visitors to CHS. This position requires the person to be very flexible in accepting assigned tasks by their supervisors with a strong sense of teamwork. This position also has a need for attention to detail and the ability to stay informed of updates to college application procedures. This position will deal with community members, parents, students and staff on a regular basis and will be expected to interact with these publics in a professional, friendly, and organized manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Educational training and experience preferred. The responsibilities and duties listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Each essential function is mandatory to perform this job successfully. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assist students in the college and scholarship application process
Assist students and parents in receiving information regarding SAT/ACT registration and sending scores to institutions
Administer and maintain paperwork for Dual Credit program through Purdue Northwest and other affiliated colleges
Liaison with all military recruiters to schedule lunch visits and provide updated information regarding recruit progress
Organize College & Career Center student and community information
Maintain up-to-date material
Research and update Internet resources
Design and maintain College & Career Center web page
Process all career/college associated mail and material
Manage, supervise, and counsel all 21st Century Scholars in completing scholarship requirements
Schedule all career presenters and college representatives
Release for announcement all career and college related information to DSC Public Relations
Assist students, parents, teachers with individual college and career research projects
Prepare annual Chesterton High School Profile
Prepare and send transcripts for current students (college applications, scholarships, NCAA Eligibility Center, etc.)
Assist Guidance Counselors with letters of recommendation
Assist National Merit Nominees with the completion of their application and processes
Coordinate all principal and school nominations for scholarships (Wells Scholar Award, Porter County Foundation Lilly Endowment Scholarship, etc.)
Coordinate Financial Aid Night
Contact all established community scholarship representatives and service each business or organization with their application and award processes
Coordinate Senior Honors Night
Assist the Guidance Department with testing (ISTEP, PSAT, etc.) and special projects
Other duties as prescribed by CHS Administration

● Collaborate with stakeholders to provide appropriate learning experiences that increase career awareness and student achievement (9-12) (included but not limited to: student and faculty field trips, internships, guest lecturers, etc.)
● Designing/coordinating lessons/programming centered on the RFMS/RFHS resource period.
● Working with the Counseling Department and Administration in developing locally created pathways.
● Educating counselors, students, and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, financial aid/scholarships, and testing.
● Educating counselors, students, and parents about Career and Technical Education and post high school opportunities.
● Provide vertical articulation for all CCR and CTE activities throughout the River Forest Community School Corporation (grades 9-12).
● Advising and supporting counselors, students, and families as they go through the college research, application and selection process.
● Meeting with high school students, individually and in groups, to talk about post- secondary goals and options.

● Meeting with all college admissions representatives who visit our campus and facilitating meetings between college representatives and our students. The GPA also serves as a liaison with college admissions offices throughout the United States.
● Serving as a coordinator/liaison with the Trade Unions, to develop and promote planning and internship and entries into training opportunities.
● Serving as a coordinator/liaison with Business, Indiana Workforce Ready, to provide and coordinate internship opportunities.
● To assist counselors and administration in testing coordination and implementation.
● Work with Counseling and Administration to maintain student progress within graduation pathway route.
● To work with area schools in shared programming for CTE and CCR.
● To monitor and work with IDOE regarding CCR and Graduation Pathways.
● To work with or serve as senior class sponsor and senior class to assisting students in graduation planning and post-secondary plans.

SKILLS:

Responsible for implementing the College & Career Readiness program at the secondary level (grades 9-12). This position requires the GPA to be aware of and to apply knowledge of current postsecondary education methods and trends. The GPA must have the ability to coordinate projects and programs for counselors, students, and parents. The GPA must be able to communicate effectively, work with others as a team, organize and maintain records, understand and work well with technology and manage time and resources effectively and efficiently. Work requires creativity and adaptive thinking to match the program’s objectives.

DLP works exclusively with students with developmental disabilities and act as related-service providers, providing counseling minutes as indicated in their IEPs. They also write goals, do evaluations for special education and create group lessons. DLP has a great group of dedicated colleagues!
