Our Community-Based Instruction (CBI) classes have been diving into what makes a downtown area unique!

Using Google Maps, students took a virtual walking tour through the streets of Downtown Hammond to explore local businesses, civic buildings, public transit, rich history and see how our local area has evolved over the years. To broaden their perspectives, they also "stepped out" into some of the world's most famous Downtown areas—exploring New York's Times Square, Downtown Chicago, and Tokyo, Japan.

After comparing the unique features, architecture, and similarities of these bustling cities, students put their knowledge to work by designing and building their very own Downtown Cities!

It was a fantastic hands-on project that combined local history, global exploration, and creative design!

Our junior and senior student-athletes took part in an important field trip centered around su***de prevention and mental health awareness.

We are grateful for opportunities that remind our students that looking out for one another extends far beyond the field or court. They were encouraged to have conversations surrounding their mental health and to be open about their struggles.
Be there. Check in. Listen. Speak up. You never know the difference you might make.

The first few days of Engineering have been all about learning by doing!
Our Engineering students jumped right into the semester with a series of quick-build challenges designed to get them thinking and working together. With some simple materials, a few constraints, and plenty of ideas, students had to figure out how to turn their plans into something that actually worked.

These challenges may look simple, but they introduce some of the biggest ideas we’ll use all year. Problem solving, learning from what doesn’t work, and making improvements along the way.

And, of course, no engineering challenge is complete until we find out just how much weight the final design can hold or see how it measures up!

We’re excited to see what our Hammond High engineers create this year.

Image Description: Students in Hammond High Engineering classes work in small groups on hands-on quick-build challenges using paper, Pool noodle pieces, toothpicks and other classroom materials. Students are shown planning, building, testing, and collaborating on their designs. In the final photos, students test a paper structure by stacking packages of copy paper on top to see how much weight their design can support.
