Congratulations, Penny! Way to show that 💜🌪️

The Rotary Club of Hammond was pleased to welcome Penny Lentini, our 2026 RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) recipient, as she stopped by to introduce herself and thank the club for selecting her to attend the upcoming conference. Penny impressed everyone with her poise, confidence, and ability to articulate her goals and aspirations at such a young age.

Joining Penny were her mother, Lauren Edwards, and Evita Baylor, Special Education Educator with the Tangipahoa Parish School System, who came to support and encourage her. We look forward to seeing all that Penny accomplishes through this leadership opportunity.

This morning, Hammond High Magnet School was recognized at the Louisiana BESE Board meeting for being named a 2026 Louisiana State Seal of Biliteracy Exemplary High School. To receive this honor means that at least 5% of the students in the HHMS graduating class of 2026 received the seal of biliteracy on their high school diploma! HHMS was one of 27 schools in the entire state that was recognized today. Our principal, Mr. Kyles, and Spanish teacher, Mr. Tiffer, attended the meeting on behalf of the school. 🏅💜

📍 Location: The HHMS Engineering Shop in the Medical Magnet Building at Hammond High
👥 Ages: 6-13 with two camp groups occurring simultaneously (ages 6-9 and 10-13)

Our season is officially in motion! From Monday, June 1st through Thursday, June 4th, the HHMS Torettes dedicated themselves to an exciting and productive week at our annual summer dance camp. Throughout the week, the team worked hard to strengthen their technique, sharpen their performance skills, and learn brand-new Jazz and Hip Hop choreography created by our Head Dance Coach, Carlton Carter. The team also mastered exciting new stand routines choreographed collaboratively by Carlton Carter and Alexis Baker, while continuing to perfect an impressive lineup of routines for the upcoming season.

Camp was not only focused on growth in dance, but also on strengthening the bond within our team. The Torettes enjoyed a fun-filled team-building scavenger hunt and ended the week with our highly anticipated Big Sister reveal. These sister groups are designed to provide encouragement, mentorship, and support throughout the season, helping every dancer feel connected and supported.

To conclude an amazing week, we celebrated everyone’s hard work and dedication with a "Showcase" for family and friends, and a special awards ceremony recognizing the effort, growth, and positive spirit displayed by our dancers. We are incredibly proud of each team member for the commitment and enthusiasm they showed throughout camp. The HHMS Torettes are excited for the season ahead, and we cannot wait to showcase everything we’ve been working on for the student body and community. Get ready for an unforgettable year!

Welcome Coach Desmond Hunter to the Tors boys basketball coaching staff!
Coach Hunter brings a wealth of experience to our program, entering his eighth year of high school coaching this fall with a deep commitment to youth development and community engagement. His background includes serving as an assistant basketball coach at Loranger High and a successful tenure as head coach at Independence High, where he led the Tigers to a 9-2A District Championship in 2020 and earned Coach of the Year honors.
After stepping away from coaching for two years, Coach Hunter returned to coaching this past season coaching alongside Coach Willie Chaney and Coach Thad Showers at Independence.
Coach Hunter is excited to join Hammond High basketball’s program and is eager to continue making contributions in molding student-athletes for success on and off the court. 🩶💜🌪️
