Congratulations to Dr. Timothy Reling, our 2026 Distinguished Alumnus for the College of Honors and Excellence!

A first-generation college student and 2014 Southeastern alumnus, Dr. Reling earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice, graduating with Honors Diplomas in both fields. He went on to earn his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Louisiana State University.

Today, Dr. Reling serves as an Assistant Research Professor at Mississippi State University’s National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center, where his applied research informs criminal justice and workforce policy across Louisiana and Mississippi.

His research on the collateral consequences of incarceration has supported the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, including the development of reentry assessment tools used across the state’s corrections system to connect returning citizens with treatment and employment opportunities. His work in Mississippi focuses on education and workforce development, helping evaluate the impact of career training and workforce initiatives.

Dr. Reling also mentors graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, helping build partnerships that turn research into meaningful policy and community impact.
From a first-generation Southeastern student to a researcher shaping criminal justice and workforce policy, Dr. Reling’s journey reflects the power of education, research, and service.
